INTRODUCTION
This Externals Configuration Hardware Handbook is intended to provide customers with a quick reference for the handling,
identification, routing and part repair of the PW1100G-JM engine externals which includes all air, oil, and fuel tubing, hoses, ducts
and engine harnesses.
This publication is a snapshot in time and is not intended to replace any information in the Engine Manual or Illustrated
Parts Catalog. It is recommended that personnel concerned with engine maintenance also familiarize themselves with
the appropriate Engine Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog for the listed service bulletin and Cleaning Inspection or Repair
Manual, for the latest part number and cleaning/repair activity.
For each of the three major tube systems (Air, Oil and Fuel) an index table is provided for each sub-system.
The index table will provide the particular tube code, tube part number, description, tube diameter and Engine Manual location for
each External tube. The more complex tube sub-systems will include a tube line schematic to show the tube routing and tube label
identification. In addition, Left and Right views of the engine illustrating the tubes routing and connectivity are provided for a visual
reference. The individual tubes have been color coded in an effort to help follow the tube routing within the illustrations.
Unusual problems concerning engine maintenance should be presented to the Customer Technical Service Department either
through its field representatives or by direct contact. Assistance will be provided to resolve these problems.
Requests for pertinent information not covered by this publication, and suggestions for modifications or amplification of this
handbook to increase its usefulness, will be welcomed. Please address your comments to:

HANDLING AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
1. During removal of tubes or engine parts look for indications of scoring, burning or other undesirable conditions. To facilitate reinstallation, observe the
location of each part during removal. Tag unserviceable parts and units for investigation and possible repair.
2. Extreme care shall be taken to prevent dust, dirt, lockwire, nuts, washers or other foreign matter from entering the engine. It cannot be overem phasized that this precaution applies whenever work is done on the engine either on the wing or off the wing. Suitable plugs, caps, and other
coverings shall be used to protect all openings as they are exposed.
CAUTION: Dust caps used to protect open lines against contamination shall always be installed over the tube ends and not in
the tube ends. Flow through the lines may be blocked off if lines are inadvertently installed with dust caps in the
tube ends. Do not place tools, fasteners, or other small objects in the area between inner fan exit case struts. It is
possible for small objects to fall through the 2.5 bleed valve ports and into the engine interior.
3. Foreign Objects
a.
If at any time items are dropped into the engine, the assembly process must stop until the dropped articles are located, even though this
may require a considerable amount of time and labor. Before assembling or installing any part, be sure it is thoroughly clean .
b.
Objects have successfully been retrieved by use of a fiber optic scope to locate object. Tape small plastic tube about .375 i nch (9.5
mm) to 0.50 inch (12.7 mm) in diameter to side of fiber optic scope with ends of the tube and scope about flush. Tape end of tube to
end of scope so that it does not interfere with movement of scope. Tape at one other location 18 inches (457.2 mm) or so back from
end of scope. Tape plastic tube to hose of vacuum cleaner (preferably industrial type or equivalent) for suction purpose. Hol d object
for removal by suction on plastic hose.
c.
If above equipment is not available, a magnet can be used to remove objects if they are magnetic. Attach magnet to a flexible cable so it
can be maneuvered to cover a greater area. Double-sided Adhesive Tape (P05-012), can be utilized for removal of objects by wrapping
tape on end of flexible cable.
4. Safety cable lockwire, lockwashers, tablocks, keywashers (tab type or cup type), or cotter pins shall never be reused. All lockwire and cotter pins
must fit snugly in their holes. Install a cotter pin so the head fits into the castellation of the nut, and unless otherwise specified, bend one end of the
pin back over the stud or bolt and the other end down flat against the nut. Only lockwire and cotter pins per Standard Practices Manual shall be used.
5. Replace all gaskets, packings and rubber parts at every removal. Make sure that new nonmetallic parts to be installed show no sign of having
deteriorated in storage. If necessary, coat gasket surfaces with Gasket Lubricant (P06-014), to reduce the possibility of the gasket adhering to the
surfaces of mating parts.
CAUTION: Before using tools covered with protective material, make certain that there is sufficient protective material prese nt
to preclude the possibility of damaging engine parts.
6. If any parts were coated with corrosion preventive compounds, all traces of this compound and accumulated foreign matter must be removed.
NOTE: It is recommended that the Standard Practices Manual be consulted for the latest Maintenance Practices.

EXTERNAL TUBE INSPECTION AND REPAIRS
1. INSPECT (FUEL) HYDRAULIC EXTERNAL TUBES
A. PREREQUISITES

2. General Visual Inspection (GVI) of the Fuel Distribution System (Task PW1000G-C-73-11-00-00A-310A-D)
B. EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS REQUIRED – NONE
C. PROCEDURE
1. Inspect tubes for nicks, chafing, scratches, and pitting.
a) Damage not greater than 0.002 inch (0.051 mm) in depth is acceptable in any locations of tube length, including
the bend area.
2.
Inspect tubes for dents.
a) No dents are permitted within 0.25 inch (6.350 mm) of ferrules.
b) Tube dents without sharp edges or concerns are acceptable provided tubing internal passage will permit free
passage of a ball having an 80 percent diameter of ID of tube. Tubes not meeting the requirements are
unacceptable.
3. Inspect tubes for corrosion (rust) and stain.
a) Corrosion (rust) and stain are acceptable if removable by lightly polishing with crocus cloth.
4. Pressure test tubes.
a) Pressure test tubes per Standard Practices Manual testing pressures.
b) If tube leaks, replace.
