Name / #__________________________
Electri- City Convention Project
Date: _____________________________
The City of Toronto’s electricity provider contract is almost up. The city is looking into
new possibilities for providing electricity. You and your group are being sent to the
Electric-City Convention to convince the city councilors and the population (who will
get to vote) that your form of generating power is best for Toronto. The choices are:
Hydro, wind, nuclear, solar, geothermal, fuel cells, biomass, and fossil fuels, (Tidal)
How are you evaluated?
a) Research Notes: must be submitted BEFORE the construction of the display (see below).
 Title page
 Group members and their assigned responsibilities (attached)
 A diagram that will be used in the Display (see below)
 4 pages of notes on (each member is responsible for 1 page double spaced):
i. The mechanics of how electricity is generated
ii. The advantages of this method (including social, economic and environmental)
iii. The disadvantages of this method (including social, economic and environmental)
iv. Ideal requirements to use this method effectively
The notes must be written in complete sentences and in your own words. The research notes
should contain MORE information than will be displayed in the convention presentation. The extra
information will give you the necessary background to answer questions during the Convention.
 3-6 references (per group), cited using APA or MLA formatting, (see your referencing
worksheet); there must be one reference from textbooks, one from news/magazine articles
(may be online) and one from a government/university/power entity
b) The Display: Each group will prepare a Bristol board display (or other form of display…technology
access is limited so please speak with the teacher first) of their research which includes:
 Title
 A diagram of how the technology works
Brief summaries of:
 The mechanics of how electricity is generated
 The advantages of this method (including social, economic and environmental)
 The disadvantages of this method (including social, economic and environmental)
 Ideal requirements to use this method effectively
c) Electri-City Convention: Each group’s display will be setup in a mock convention to be held in room
________. Members of the class (the customers) will circulate through the displays “shopping” for
the best method of generating electricity for the City of Toronto. Each group must have 1
representative at the display available at all times to answer questions. All representatives will take
a turn answering questions. The teacher will also circulate to assess your knowledge.
