I will ask them to listen carefully because after the story there would some questions which will lead them to a topic of the day. Learners will shortly write a spelling test which will be based on the story I have told. DEVELOPMENT STEP 1 Learners will quickly read again the story of Richard Simelane so that they could remember what was the story about. In that way, I will be creating a smooth transition from what we have done from the previous lesson. Moreover, I will encourage learners with expression (learners should indicate if a person is shouting or excited from the reader’s voice projection. STEP 2: I will write the questions based on the story in chalkboard and tell learners to write the answers in their exercise books. Questions would be as follows: When did the story happen? Where did it happen? What happened in the story? How did Richard get through the rock fall? The above questions will be asked and then I will go around and learners to work in pairs to answer the questions. STEP 3: Learners would be orally asked follow up questions which would help them understand how to write a good summary. To check where they listened , I will ask any learner to come forward and present what he or she heard from the audio play and thereafter I will let learners work in pairs to write a short summary about the story we read about for about 15 minutes. CONSOLIDATION/LESSON CONCLUSION I will conclude the lesson by taking each pair to present what they have done in class and then I will quickly wrap up the lesson. I will give explain the homework activity so that they can do what I am expecting.
