Reflection of “The Intern” After watching and indulging the film, I am somehow attached to the story and adored the characters themselves. I love how the flow of the story transitioned—from a taste of a comedic, funny side of scenes to being held onto the emotional, yet a life lesson’s part of the story. From that side note, I have witnessed the mentor-mentee relationship of two of the main characters, Ben and Jules—which is one of the most highlighted parts of the story for me. Ben, a 70-year-old intern, worked with his traditional ways, yet bringing the utmost dedication and determination toward his job at About the Fit. He enters as Jules’ intern—who reluctantly give him any tasks to do. From having years of experience working prior to the internship, he independently finds a way to work on something. From the scene where there is a mess in a table where Jules was annoyed of, Ben is the only one who took the initiative to clean and organize them up. Instead of resting and be unbothered on doing nothing, he did the opposite. He is listening to the employees and enjoys working with them. He did something for the employees to look up for especially to Jules. When Jules was engaged with Ben for a task which is to become his driver, Ben manageably creates a good impression to Jules. Ben, sometimes, leads her with advice and suggestions on situations that create better results. Advice and suggestions he learned from his experience of being an employee. In return, Jules is also teaching Ben to cope with the environment he is not good at because of technology development and advancement and trends. They influence each other and were nourished together. He managed to adapt in the trendy environment and found a way out to blend in and create such an admirable act to the young employees. Jules is the CEO of About the Fit, a workaholic, and undoubtedly dedicated on her craft. I’ve seen how much of a responsible CEO Jules is. She took it seriously—from being restless on work and having no time to sleep. The leadership she has is commendable. She is not a boss who is bossy and annoying for some reasons (you get what I mean). Though her tardiness on meetings paved the way into a decision of having a new CEO of the company, she still took it professionally. Giving out her all for her company does show the work ethic she has for the growth and success of it. Ben and Jules, for me, portrayed as inspirational individuals. I got a lot of lessons from them. They showed me how to work under pressure and even uncertainty. I am taking business related course as of the moment and soon, in God’s time, I can apply those practices and behaviour on my chosen craft.
