Automatic Passenger Counting System for Public Transport
Objective
Automatic Passenger Counting system is important for analysis and forecasting purpose of service
providers.
Tools and Technology use
01. Counting system is based on image processing technique.
02. Counting system will be independently monitor the passenger inward and outward from the bus
03. System will be divided to two parts
a. Video capturing Unit
b. Data processing Unit
04. Video capturing system is placed inside the bus and it is consist with camera system and
memory card, which integrated with controller and GPS.
05. Camera will be start the video capturing when decrease the bus acceleration less than 10 km/h
till the increase of acceleration.
06. In here, three cameras will be use in one exit of bus and those are in different angles and will be
record the video in same time slots.
07. Separate power supply unit will be powered the video capturing system
08. Video will be save in………………..format and data will be save in memory disc.
09. Data processing unit is software tool, which installed in remote desktop unit.
10. This software tool is use to process the saved video frames and it use AI consepts in passenger
identification image feature extraction.
11. Based on the extracted data, software tool will generate the count of passengers who travel by
the bus and their destinations of root and further more required analysis data.
