Main deck, hatches & hatch covers:
Main deck, Cross deck are painted red , covered with coal cargo , and coating
slightly corroded at places, but overall condition seemed satisfactory. There was
evidence of on-going maintenance and primer touch up work.
There are seven cargo holds having a total grain capacity of 90606.1 cubic
meters. On inspection, the hatch covers, rubber packing, coamings, compression
bars, wheel rails and the majority of the associated fittings appeared to be
reasonably satisfactory condition considering age of vessel. During loading
calculations , vessel reported to be maintaining stress (SF-BM) around 50 % in
loadicator
The bulkhead, frames, ladders, etc in the holds appeared to be satisfactory
condition, with some spot rust at scattered locations. The tank top areas were
noted with rust, moderate to heavy dents, and general paintwork damage.
Good maintenance seen on the under side of this hatch covers. Insufficient
greasing observed on the wheels. Cross decks, sounding pipes appear to be in
good condition. During Inspection on deck observed grease nipples covered with
paint , and overall lacking in greasing routine maintenance. Wires for
crane/gangway observed to be getting rusted due lack of grease film. Vent heads
for various ballast and fuel oil tanks rusted and most of ballast tank vent wire
mesh is missing from place. Many of fire hydrant caps were missing and most of
the hoses were not in hose box on deck. Fire line did not have a pressure guage
on deck and no relief valve present in fire line on deck.
Opening/closing devices of all seven holds reported to be in satisfactory
condition. On inspection observed leakage from ram seals and hatch cover rams
operating lines rusted and need renewal. Line valves handwheels rusted and hard
to operate.
Side rolling hatch covers are fitted. Hatch covers top and bottom is in reasonably
good condition. The area of concern is the rubber retaining lip and its channel. All
quick acting clits found in sound condition with no sign of rust. Hatch covers track
way with Compression bar in good condition. Some of roller wheels need
attention. Rust noticed on Track ways and rollers.Seal leakage noticed on few

Jacks. Have noticed 5 leaky ram cylinder during my inspection. Found star motor
hydraulic pipe flange bolts heads are eroding out and needs immediate renewal
Pipelines, conduits and other fittings on deck are in satisfactory condition. Oil
leakages observed during visit. At some place the operating station had leakage
from the operating levers of control valves. All hatch covers and internals are
coated and well maintained. H/cover packing renewed in 2014 , but at nearly 2025 % of places packing condition found to be not satisfactory & packing retaining
channels have worn out. Compression bars are in good condition, no
deformation. Some of the rest pads were severely worn out and needed repair.
All hatch coamings and stays are reasonably well maintained. Some of booby
hatch covers found to have packing retaining channels and packing in poor
condition and compression bars of booby hatch covers also rusted/wasted. Most
of bollards, and Panama chocks are in satisfactory condition with intact coating.
About 5-7 fair lead rollers need maintenance as seemed jammed in place.

# 4 is ballast hold. Hold sides coating condition is good, but black stain of cargo
noticed. In 2014 during 2nd SS all holds coated. Australian ladders hand rails are
not in good condition and have rusted significantly at certain places. Fixed
extinguishing system for holds is CO2.
Inner bottom plating is quite weavy for both No.1 & 4 Cargo holds.Visual
inspection of No.7 cargo hold revealed similar condition., lower slopping plates
are in satisfactory condition. Suspecting diminution of approx. 5 %. Bulkheads are
also in good condition. Suspecting diminution of 7 %.
Looking at the tank tops , the corrosion indicates in the range of substantial as per
ABS. If vessel is classed with IRS , corrosion may require renewal of plating for the
areas exceeding the allowable diminution. Considering the obtained readings , if
its representative of the actual diminution levels , it may require renewal of
approx. 60 Tonnes of steel per cargo hold, thereby leading to approx. 450 +
tonnes of steel renewal.
