TEACHING: A PASSION AND A PURPOSE Achieving one’s goal in life is a product of passion, patience and persistence. As we are on our way to achieving our dreams, we encounter inevitable challenges that may affect our focus on attaining them. However, it depends on us to have the drive to achieve our passion and purpose in life. My personal enablers are critical because they assist me in realizing my life goals. It served as my motivation to keep on moving until I reached my dream. My parents, whom I considered my strong foundation and support system, inspired me to do my very best in my studies. Without them, I could not have become what I am today. My learners are also my enablers for they are the reason I continue to upskill and capacitate myself to become an effective teacher in the 21st century. I have a mission for them, and that is not merely to teach and deposit facts and information in their minds, but to influence them to become better individuals, realize their full potential, and contribute meaningfully to the progress of our country. These learners serve as my driving force to undergo personal and professional development so that I can provide them with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that they need as they face the challenges of 21st century society. Our learners will always remember us through the experiences we shared with them. Those experiences may have either a negative or positive impact on their lives. I would like my students to remember me as a teacher who develops the mind, hand and heart. I envision myself as a teacher who will help every learner achieve holistic development as I guide them to achieve their fullest potential. I am a teacher who likes to nurture their intellectual aspect. Enhancing their cognitive aspect is important because this will lead them to the process of acquiring, organizing and learning to use the gained knowledge in their life. As a 21st century teacher, it is my responsibility to help them develop an interest in learning, which includes improving their literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills. Cultivating our learners’ skills is also necessary. All the learning that they acquire will be put into action. As 21st century teachers, it is our role to hone the skills and competencies that our learners have acquired so that they can apply them in their chosen career. This also impels us to practice learning by doing to make their learning engaging and meaningful. Moreover, molding learners’ behavior is also salient. As teachers, we serve as second parents to them, providing discipline, correcting unnecessary behavior, and cultivating values that they may carry throughout their life. Opening their minds and touching their hearts are the perks of being a teacher. Seeing our learners’ achievement is already a fulfillment on our part. It is concrete evidence that, in our own exceptional way, we play a vital part in our learners’ success.
