Preparation for rearing earwigs
I. INTRODUCTION
To understand on how to prepare or to make a housing of earwigs.To give some insight on what
food and substrate you will provide for your earwigs and where is the best spot for earwigs .This activity
will give you some idea for creating a housing for earwigs.
II. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this exercise the student should be able to:
1. Understand the activities involved in preparing to house the rearing earwigs
2. Determine the materials needed for providing good housing.
3. Determine the materials used in the diet of the earwigs.
III. MATERIALS AND METHODS
a. Materials
Box, tupper ware , tape, cutter , and food.
b. Procedures
1. Housing
a. Construct a housing with a dimension of 50cm length, 50 cm width, and 25 cm
height.
b. Provide a lid for the housing using the material of your choice, ensuring that it
can allow the passage of air into the housing
2. Substrate/Food
a. Mix 1:1 ratio of ground corn cob and dog food.
b. Water the diet to provide moist condition for the earwigs.
3. Place the housing in a cool, dry, and dark area.
4. Submit documentation (picture) of your final output including documentation while
constructing the housing.
