Running head: Case Study 1 The Flynn Effect Organization Behavior MGMT 303 Robert Rahming University of the Bahamas Friday, January 28, 2022 Author Note: This paper was prepared for MGMT 303, taught by Jason Styles 1. Do you believe people are really getting smarter? Why or why not? According to Robins intellectual abilities are abilities needed to perform mental activities, thinking, reasoning and problem-solving. Most societies today place a high value on intelligence. I think there is a link between intelligence and survivability that drives most creatures on the planet and I believe people are no different. Smart people generally earn more money and attain higher levels of education. The new generation would observe the life of the old generation and would make more efficient practices/decisions when it coming living within their specific environment. With the scarcity of jobs being a major factor, the more intelligent one is the more likely he/she may be to acquire a higher paying job. This increases competition within that society as the need for adaption and survivability is in effect. Most people want an environment where they and their children can live well within. Just like the Flynn study suggests Genes carrying intelligence are becoming dominant. The type and scope of difficulties are always changing as the world develops more. The new generation's minds are developing as a result of adaption to these changes. 2. Which of the factors explaining the Flynn effect do you accept? Education is a major factor; Genes carrying intelligence from parent to child are doubled because of that genetic factor. Along with the amount of access to education that is readily available in today's society. People are learning the importance of proper nutrition, which leads to better discoveries in medical health care. Having better knowledge of the concept of resources means that there would be fewer children born within the family. This would result in increased opportunities for those few children as they now have an abundance of resources to choose from. 3. If the Flynn effect is true, does this undermine the theory that IQ is mostly inherited? Why or why not? The Flynn effect does not undermine the IQ is mostly inherited. It is factual that the intelligence new generation is bound to be equal to or higher than their parents. It can be seen as a result of every new generation making more improvements within their society compared to the older generation. That is because the resources of the older generations are given to the new generation as a means of better survival within accordance to their society. That all comes down to more exposure and better education.
