Under Part 2, section on basic foundational movement/motion fibers should be well
covered. This is the evolutionary beginnings of a function that defines every animal and
other forms of life.
II.
Chapter 7 Membrane Structure and Function
Build up knowledge base as described above. Main Theme? Totally Structure and Function.
There is a LAB with this chapter—the group will set this up. Involves a pre-lab and an
Informal Write-Up. TRANSPORT across membrane is the focus of this chapter.
Analogies are welcome.
III.
Chapter 8 Metabolism—1st formal Lab # 1 and Report. Focus on “theme/s”
From a “kingdom of life” perspective, this is a pivotal chapter. Concepts are both
mathematical and conceptual. Will be thoroughly covered. Lots of examples to make this
topic more concrete. Disorders? involving specifically metabolism are quite interesting.
IV.
Chapter 10 Photosynthesis {once again theme/s}. Involves a LAB--#6
Part 1 section 10.1 thru 10.2—a form of energy [metabolism] transformer. How energy is
fundamentally generated. Analogies—memory tips for the cycles—animations—models
[hand held demo examples].
