it was necessary and justified for the United States to drop the atomic bombs on
Japan because there had been reports about bombs already being created by Nazi
Germany. The United States detonated two atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, killing 210,000 people which impacted only
children, women, and men. President Truman authorized the use of the atom bombs in
an effort to bring about Japan’s surrender in the Second World War. In the days
following the bombings Japan surrendered.The Manhattan Project was the US
government program during World War II that developed and built these first atomic
bombs.Detonation of these first nuclear bombs signaled arrival of a frightening new
Atomic Age. The topic of the atomic bomb matters because it was the main point as to
why we won the war.
The Atomic bomb was a great idea because if we didn't invent/come up with the
idea somebody else might have created it which would have lead to the death of us.
One example of this is that “The Manhattan Project was the codename for the secret
US government research and engineering project during the second world war that
developed the world’s first nuclear weapons.” Another thing that was a surprise was that
“President Franklin Roosevelt created a committee to look into the possibility of
developing a nuclear weapon after he received a letter from Albert Einstein in October
1939. In his letter, Einstein warned the president that Nazi Germany was likely already
at work on developing a nuclear weapon. By August 1942, the Manhattan Project was
underway.”
Even though we won the war there are still many bad reasons as to why the
atomic bomb was a bad idea for example by detonating it killed many civilian men
women and children which is illegal. The evidence for this is he League warned, “Any
attack on legitimate military objectives must be carried out in such a way that civilian
populations in the neighborhood are not bombed through negligence.” In other words,
a special category of illegal weapons had been recognized, a category today called
Weapons of Mass Destruction. This is why many people think the atomic bomb was not
necessary.
In the end the united states had the right to make the atomic bombs because
many people see it as they get bombed or we get bombed so its either or. This topic is
important to learn because it shows the type of decisions the government has to take
whether they’re deadly or not. This relates to later events because we now know that
nobody can make Weapons Of Mass Destruction. This is an actual issue that has come
up now because a country that has already made bomb threats is North Korea.
