The Fabulous George Carlin Aadit Tatake Who was George Carlin? ❏ Born on May 12th, 1937 ❏ One of the most profound comedians of his time, he inspired Eddie Murphy, Eddie Izzard, Bill Burr, among others ❏ Dubbed as the “dean of counter-culture” ❏ Known for his extremely opinionated views on religion, government, and world issues. ❏ Brought attention to problems that are affecting us more than anything else. What issues did George Carlin solve? George Carlin pointed the instability of our current country and the problems we face more AT HOME than abroad. He pointed out that we, as Americans possess an inherent problem which then reflects out ot the rest of our society. He advocated for things such as atheism, use of the death penalty in certain applications, and why we fail as a result of our capitalist system which is filled with corruption. As part of one of the largest movements in history, he used counterculture not only to bring attention to the problems, but also posed solutions to them in order to solidify who and what we stand for. “That’s why they call it the American Dream — because you have to be asleep to believe it.” — George Carlin George Carlin’s Impact on Society George Carlin had a tremendous impact on our society. While it isn’t apparent in our day-to-day life, he was probably the most selfreflective and philosophical comedian to have ever lived. He made people question things that they wouldn’t have even thought of. He changed the perception and the individualist society on how we, as a nation, as a world, can improve. He idolized a more progressive, more open world, as he is afterall dubbed, “the dean of counterculture”. More than that, he allowed people to see it for themselves, predicating most of his arguments on self-realization. “I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, ‘Where’s the selfhelp section?’ She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.” “Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist.” —George Carlin Thanks For Watching!
