Angeles COURSE CODE: SPH3U1 COURSE TITLE: GRADE 11 University Physics ______________________________________________________________________________ TASK FOR STUDENTS: Students will demonstrate scientific skills through inquiry and research, and be able to discuss their ideas through a Catholic lens. COURSE EVALUATION: Term Work CPT Total Knowledge and Understanding Thinking Communication Application Mark Total PERCENTAGE 70% 30% 100% 25% 35% 15% 25% See Rubric Culminating Performance Task SPH3U1 - 30% of overall mark Task: In order to assist the Grade 10 students with course selection, your task is to create a newsletter for the students of Robert F Hall to promote the Grade 11 University Physics Course. The newsletter should be informative, creative and reflect the units studied in the course. You may choose a different format if you would like such as a brochure. Or reach out for approval of a different format Required Elements: ● In your own words, explain the main concepts from each unit in the course and connect how what you learned can be applied to the real world. ● Reflect on the ‘Big Ideas’ for each unit from the list on the next page in your explanations and connections. (Units to include: Kinematics, Dynamics, Work/Power/Energy, Sound and Waves) ● Include at least one diagram that represents each unit. ● Include an Opinion Piece - This section should explain what your preferred unit of study was in the course and why you enjoyed it. Include key terms and your understanding of the unit’s key principles in this section as well. ● Include a Reference List of sources used in APA Format. (www.citationmachine.net) ● Creativity “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:3 Big Ideas: Kinematics • Motion involves a change in the position of an object over time. • Motion can be described using mathematical relationships. • Many technologies that apply concepts related to kinematics have societal and environmental implications. Forces • Forces can change the motion of an object. • Applications of Newton's laws of motion have led to technological developments that affect society and the environment. Energy and Society • Energy can be transformed from one type to another. • Although technological applications that involve energy transformations can affect society and the environment in positive ways, they can also have negative effects, and therefore must be used responsibly. Waves and Sound • Mechanical waves have specific characteristics and predictable properties. • Sound is a mechanical wave. • Mechanical waves can affect structures, society, and the environment in positive and negative ways. Examples of Newsletter Design: You are not limited to these designs and may choose a different format if you would like “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:3 Culminating Performance Task SPH3U1 – Rubric Category Knowledge – Information used - Effectiveness of information used - Ability to showcase each unit’s big ideas Communication – Presentation of Newsletter - Concepts clearly identified on Newsletter - Use of appropriate and effective pictures - Design/effort of Newsletter Same criteria applies to any other form of presentation (i.e. website, brochure.) Thinking - Delivery & Credit of Info - Sources of information - APA referencing formatting - Depth effectiveness of content - Depth of each explanation is clear and effective Application – Real world connection - Connects each unit to own life Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Missing many aspects of criteria, Does not reflect the expectations of the category Meets some requirements with effectiveness Meets many requirements with effectiveness Meets all requirements with a high degree of effectiveness Missing many aspects of criteria, Does not reflect the expectations of the category Meets some requirements with effectiveness Meets many requirements with effectiveness Meets all requirements with a high degree of effectiveness Missing many aspects of criteria, Does not reflect the expectations of the category Meets some requirements with effectiveness Meets many requirements with effectiveness Meets all requirements with a high degree of effectiveness Missing many aspects of criteria, Does not reflect the expectations of the category Meets some requirements with effectiveness Meets many requirements with effectiveness Meets all requirements with a high degree of effectiveness “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:3
