Jessiel Jones What Have You Learned Playing Video Games? Sorry parents, but we do learn a lot playing video games. Some people play video games which causes negative effects on children, but video games can also help you develop useful skills in life. I am a person that loves playing video games and I know how it gets when parents tell us “ all we do is just sit in front of a computer screen and do nothing but play video games and that you don't do your chores.” I feel that I have learned a lot playing video games. It depends on which video game you play to tell if it has a negative or positive effect on you. Firstly, I learnt team support because when we are in a team you should lend a hand to your teammates and always be there for them in times of need. Then I learnt to be calm and have patience because I don’t want to get frustrated easily because they killed me. I am more likely to have good social skills so I can build better relationships with other students at school because of the social and collaborative component of the games I play. Playing video games helps build my self esteem also because it helps me feel and have more self-confidence. The satisfaction of learning and mastering a skill is all I need to fill my mind with pride and happiness. Lastly, I learnt quick thinking or processing information quickly and the skill to think about a number of things, at the same time. These video games teach me essential skills like innovative thinking, strategic thinking and planning, and team building.
