Abstract
Pest surveillance information plays a very critical role in crop protection for: (a) early detection
of pets for taking appropriate measures in a timely manner, (b) forewarning the spread /
dissemination of the pests / diseases, (c) assessment of the damage, (d) identification of
the proneness of an area for incidence of pest / disease, and (e) assessing the changing
scenario of pest and disease incidence, etc. Over a period of time, pest surveillance data lead
to develop a list of pets or hosts of a given area, develop a baseline list of pests and diseases
and enable monitoring the progress in pest management. Thus, pest surveillance information
is of significant utility to diversified multiple stakeholders from farmers to extension personnel
to researchers, administrators and traders as well.
