Patch, Ph.D., P.E. Department of Civil, Coastal and Environmental Engineering University of South Alabama Subject: CE 367 Hydraulics Laboratory, Lab Number and Name of Experiment Introduction and Objective 2 paragraphs: 1 for introduction 1 for purpose/objective (what, when, where, why) Engineering Team Members The experimental data collection team consisted of the following individuals… (put in alphabetical order) The primary author of the report is …, the secondary author of the report is … Description of the Experiment Describe the experiment setup in enough detail such that the test is able to be repeated. Since specific standards, such as ASTM standards, do not exist for hydraulic laboratory experiments, you must include full explanations of each step completed to conduct the test successfully. Explain what was measured and what was calculated. Results and Discussion The results section should include all of the results from the experiment. Make sure you use tables and graphs appropriately. You will also briefly discuss your results and each table/figure in this section. Conclusions Brief description using your engineering judgment related to if the experimental results are consistent with the published data. Also, explain any deviation from published data. Do not just restate your results – that is not a conclusion. Be careful not to make recommendations that you are not qualified to make or you were not asked for. An example of this would be recommending that an aggregate is good to use if you were only asked for the properties. References The references should be listed alphabetically with no numbering. Appendices Each appendix should start on a new page. Appendix A. Data collected during the experiment. This should be typed, not a picture or copy of a data sheet. Appendix B. Sample calculations and summary table or tables of all calculations. This appendix is optional and may not be needed for every report. Appendix C. Report of contributions by each team member. This may become Appendix B if sample calculations are not included.
