Is technology doing more harm than good to the makers and the users? Technology is
science or knowledge put into practical use to solve problems or invent tools to make life easier
for humans. The term technology comes from a Greek word “techne” which means art and craft.
Technology has done more harm than good in our today's society. Although there is plenty of
evidence proving that this is not true, but technology is affecting our mental health by making us
depressed and lonely. It is also affecting our body because by causing brain damage, increasing
laziness and also causing troubles sleeping which is bad for the human body.
Technology can hurt our mental health by making us depressed. This can be seen in the
article “Student Opinion: Video games are rotting kids’ brain” by Margaret Buckler, a student
observer of her peers; she states that “Studies have shown that video game addiction also
correlates with depression and substance abuse, which are problems kid should not be facing at
such young ages” (Buckler 3). In this situation, the author speaks on video games, showing how
unhealthy technology is and the risk it can have on teenagers. As adolescents are developing, the
last thing they need is to have to undergo depression caused by technology. An example that can
lead to depression is lack of sleep. Lack of sleep can have a negative effect on our emotions and
this can result in moodiness and most importantly depression. A lot of teenagers now a days stay
indoors looking at screens all day long, apart from the fact that it ruins their social life which is
their face to face interaction with people. Science has proven that blue lights emitted by starring
at screens suppresses the body’s release of melatonin which is the hormone that makes us
drowsy or sleep naturally Technology can add unnecessary mental health problems that can be
damaging to young people who are the future of tomorrow.
In conclusion, technology and mobile devices may lead to psychological and physical
issues. The overuse of technology may also lead to more significant impact on development in
teenagers. And these points’ show that technology can do more harm than good because the only
reason why we are able to use technology is because we are healthy and there is no point of the
technology being good if we are not healthy enough to use it.
