Proposed plan of Study and Research Myanmar indeed is an earthquake-prone as it lies in one of the two main earthquake belts of the world, known as the Alpide Belt. For this reason, it is very essential to consider the effects of lateral loads induced from earthquake in the analysis and design of structures in order to save the occupants. So I am more interested in seismic and structural engineering subjects than other subjects. The Master degree project I plan to do is ‘Investigation on the Dynamic Analysis of the High-rise Building with Soft Storey’. This study focuses on dynamic analysis on the irregular building with soft storey. Lateral loads and soft storey effect will be considered based on ASCE 7-10. The properties of damper will be based on the source: Fu, Y. and Kassai, K. (1998), JSSI Manual. Proposed building will be analyzed and designed by using SAP 2000 software. After that, the story drift, sliding, overturning moment, torsional irregularity and P-∆ effect of the proposed building will be compared to choose the safe design. Following, will apply damper and then time-history analysis will carry on. Consequently, will apply isolator and time-history analysis will carry on. Study dynamic behavior of the irregular structure in both cases. Finally, compare the analysis results. The objective of my project is to analyze and design the high-rise reinforced concrete building with soft storey, to study the effect of lateral loads in irregular shape soft storey building and to reduce the effect of the soft storey with energy dissipation devices and finally to compare the analysis results of the irregular shape soft storey building with damper and isolator. The reason I choose to do this project is that soft story buildings are vulnerable to collapse in moderate to severe earthquake. Withal, irregular buildings those include in the reentrant corner types can face torsional instability and lead to collapse under earthquake effect. Therefore, shear wall, brace frame or moment resisting frame etc. would be required for stability. Moreover, base isolation, passive energy dissipation devices and active control devices are also used to reduce the effect of earthquake on the building. Therefore, isolators and dampers are used to reduce excessive vibration of structure and protect the building from damaging earthquake effects. Expected outcomes of this study is to notice about irregular shape high-rise building with soft storey, to recognize dynamic behavior of the irregular structure, to understand more about damper and isolator, and to know which is more suitable to use. The last but not least, I hope to get a chance to carry on my project. I am fully aware that career in academics and research requires a high level of intelligence and solid enthusiasm.
