Today was my first day and I noticed that there was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). The principal introduced me to the staff and then assigned me to my mentor Mr. Muhammad Awais who is currently working as a SST (General). My mentor took me to the class and introduced me to the students. The students were sitting as per SOPs provided by the government (NCOC). The day’s activities started with the recitation of Holy Quran and educational activities began afterwards. The room was well lit and nicely decorated. It was also a little over-crowded as are most of the classes in the government schools. Mr. Muhammad Awais delivered his lesson while I actively observed him, and the students. The students were taking keen interest in the lesson. I took notes of all the activities. Afterwards, I returned home. REFLECTION: Today, I experienced the educational institution as a trainee teacher. I observed Covid SOPs management and classroom organization. FIELD NOTE 2 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 2, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). My mentor took me to his class (9th) where the period was of English subject. The students were following SOPs such as wearing masks and social distancing etc. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. Today, my mentor demonstrated the build-up and maintaining of class-room discipline, alongside his routine lesson. He taught me about the usage of positive reinforcement and reward system to encourage good behavior whereas I sat in the last row, keenly observing him. The students were actively participating while Mr. Awais delivered his lesson. I took notes of today’s activities. Afterwards, I returned home. REFLECTION: I learnt important aspects of teaching profession such as classroom discipline, positive reinforcement. These will surely come in handy in my teaching career. FIELD NOTE 3 Time: 7:30 AM to 11:35 PM Date: Sep 3, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). Mr. Awais, as usual, took me to his class (10th) where the period was of general-science subject. The SOPs given by the NCOC were being followed completely. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. Today, my mentor exhibited the delivery of a lesson plan in addition to the procedure for developing one. He also taught me the importance of a well-designed lesson plan for a teacher. I sat in the last row, keenly observing the teacher as well as the pupil. It was professionally helpful to see what I had learnt, to be applied practically. I took notes of today’s activities. After the bell rang, I returned from school. REFLECTION: Today, the concepts of lesson-plan building and its execution became clear to me. I am growing as a future prospective teacher of the society. FIELD NOTE 4 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 4, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). Afterwards, my mentor took me to his class where the period was of general-science subject. The students were following the SOPs such as masks and social distancing. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. Today, Mr. Awais had planned to demonstrate the concept of tests to me. He had given his pupil a test in the previous class. He taught me how to make a well-balanced test and how to successfully conduct it. The appropriate combination of objective type and subjective type test-items was also cleared in my concepts. The students were minding their own individual tests and there were no irregularities such as cheating etc. As always, I took notes of today’s activities. Finally, I returned home when the final bell rang. REFLECTION: Today, I learnt about making a test and its conduction. Also, the proper combination of subjective and objective type test-items became clearer. FIELD NOTE 5 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 6, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). Mr. Awais took me to where his period was and the subject was English. As always, the day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. The room was well lit but was a little overcrowded as are most of the classes in the government schools. Today, my mentor taught me about the subtle difference between a good teacher and an effective one. He demonstrated how an effective teacher monitors and supervises the social and extra-curricular activities in addition to the academic performance of his students. The pupil also took keen interest in Mr. Awais’ lessons because of his effective teaching methods. I took notes of all the activities and returned from school when the final bell rang. REFLECTION: I learnt how an effective teacher manages the social and extra-curricular activities of his/her students. This experience has rekindled my passion for the teaching profession. FIELD NOTE 6 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 7, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). Today, the principal gathered the school faculty in the staffroom where a meeting was to be conducted. The principal discussed issues such as Covid-19 SOPs and the vaccination of the school employees as well as the students. It was also discussed that the class-teachers of all classes were to aware the students regarding the recent pandemic and how to stay safe under such circumstances. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. My mentor delivered his lesson while I observed him from the last row of the class. The students took keen interest in the lesson and were actively partaking in the class-room activities. I took notes, as usual, and after the bell rang, I returned home. REFLECTION: Today, I observed the procedure for conducting meetings for school agendas. Additionally, concepts such as spreading awareness among students regarding any calamity or emergency were also learnt. FIELD NOTE 7 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 8, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). My mentor took me to his class where the period was of general-science subject. The pupil were following the covid-19 SOPs completely. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. During Mr. Awais’ lesson, there was a surprise visit by the monitoring officer of IMU (Independent Monitoring Unit) department accompanied by the principal. My mentor delivered his lesson while the IMU officer observed the SOPs and the academic activities. Later, Mr. Awais explained to me the working of IMU and its importance. As usual, I observed from the backbench while the students engaged in group activities administered and managed by my mentor. I took notes of todays’ experiences and retruned home upon the ringing of the final bell. REFLECTION: I learnt about the working of IMU (Independent Monitoring Unit) for the smooth running of educational institutions. Also the importance of the said unit were learnt. My mentor took me to his class where the period was of english subject. The NCOC issued SOPs were successfully being followed. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. The students were keenly focused towards Mr. Awais’ lesson. As always, I observed the class-room activities from the last row. After the class, my mentor had planned to show me the school administration. How, various administrative roles of the school were divided among teachers and how were these roles being conducted. I learnt about charges/roles such as school admission/withdrawal, school’s monetary fund, examination etc. I took notes of what I had learnt and returned home after the ringing of the final bell. REFLECTION: I learnt how the teachers fulfill various administrative roles in addition to their primary academic activities. FIELD NOTE 9 Time: 7:30 AM to 11:35 PM Date: Sep 10, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). My mentor took me to his class where the period was of general-science subject. The SOPs were being followed successfully. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. Mr. Awais had taken a test on the previous day. He taught me about the practical implementation of the assessment and evaluation processes. He also explained the difference between the two. It also became clearer to me; how to interpret students’ test scores. Mr. Awais used the techniques of assessment and evaluation to pinpoint the students’ weaknesses also to refine his own teaching skills by changing the teaching methods where needed. I took notes from my back-row seat. Upon the ringing of the final gong, I returned from school. REFLECTION: The practical implementation of assessment and evaluation processes to interpret students’ scores. FIELD NOTE 10 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 11, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). My mentor took me to his class where the period was of general-science subject. The pupil were following SOPs such as wearing-masks and social distancing. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. Mr. Awais delivered his lesson for today while the pupils were keenly and actively participating. The room was well lit and nicely decorated. There was a surprise visit by the DEO-M (District Education Officer - Male) Kohat. While the DEO Kohat inspected the school and its activities, my mentor explained the organization of the education department from the Provincial Education Minister to DEOs and further downwards to the Schools’ Principals. I took notes of today’s learning. And returned home when the final bell rang. REFLECTION: Today, I learnt about the hierarchy of the government educational system from the directorate of elementary and secondary education to individual schools. FIELD NOTE 11 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 13, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). My mentor took me to his class where the period was of english subject. The students were following the NCOC issued SOPs completely. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. My mentor had given me a topic for today as it was my turn to engage in teaching activities. I had to prepare a lesson plan and then deliver a lesson according to it. I took a staggered start and struggled a bit with issues such as student’s diminishing attention, discipline problems such as noise etc. But finally, I got over these issues successfully. Later, he applauded my efforts and explained me the areas where I lacked. I also took notes of my strengths and weaknesses after the lesson ended. I returned from school as the final bell rang. REFLECTION: Today, I gave my first lesson to a class. There were some lackings in my delivery. But my mentor guided to become better at it. FIELD NOTE 12 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 14, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). My mentor took me to his class where the period was of general-science subject. The pupil were following the covid-19 SOPs completely. As always, the day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. My mentor allowed me to deliver today’s lesson. I had improved my practical teaching skills as I had learnt from my previous lesson’s mistakes. Mr. Awais also observed my teaching methods while sitting in the last row. After the lesson ended, he gave me feedback on my performance. I also took mental notes of my lesson delivery, and noted them in my diary afterwards. Overall, it was an exciting day for me as it proved to be full of learning. When the final bell rang, I returned from school. REFLECTION: Up till today, I have learnt a lot regarding teaching cadre and their activities. I am slowly and gradually progressing towards becoming a complete and effective teacher. FIELD NOTE 13 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 15, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). My mentor took me to his class where the period was of general-science subject. The SOPs issued by NCOC were being followed successfully. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. Mr. Awais, then gave me his permission to deliver today’s lesson so I took the stage. As I delivered my lesson, I noticed that my repertoire of teaching skills had increased enormously. My mentor gave approving nods while I was executing today’s lesson plan. As the lesson ended, he taught me some of his hardly-learned skills and techniques to perfect my own lesson delivery. As always, I took notes of today’s activities and returned home after the ringing of final bells. REFLECTION: I have learnt to self-monitor my lesson delivery and classroom management skills. This ability of self-monitoring and adjusting will enable me perfect my teaching skills repertoire. FIELD NOTE 14 Time: 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM Date: Sep 16, 2021 OBSERVATION: I reached the school sharply at 7.30 AM. There was no assembly because of corona (Covid-19). My mentor took me to his class where the period was of english subject. The students were following the NCOC issued SOPs completely. The day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, after which the educational activities began. Today, my mentor had planned to check student’s copies while I delivered my lesson. He taught me how important this aspect is in a teacher’s school activities. Afterwards, he provided me with feedback of today’s lesson and told me that he noticed significant improvements in my lesson delivery. As the day ended, I greeted the Principal and the faculty, thanking them for giving me the opportunity to practice teaching in their school. I also thanked Mr. Awais for being a sincere and supportive mentor. After the school ended, I returned home. REFLECTION: Today, I learnt that there is more to a teacher’s life other than teaching. There is also the act of checking pupils’ notebooks which is also important.
