JHS is here
Location of Spill.
IF THERE IS AN
OIL SPILL AT THE
POINT MARKED
ON THE MAP
SHOULD
VIRGINIANS
WORRY ABOUT

DRINKING
WATER?
The National
watershed
40% of our nation
is part of the
Mississippi river’s
drainage system.
Most of Virginia is part of the Chesapeake
bay watershed.
DRAINAGE IN VIRGINIA
A watershed: an area of land
where all of the water that is under
it, or drains off of it collects into the
same place (e.g. The River).
IT IS GOOD TO KNOW THIS BECAUSE
EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS ON THE JAMES
FLOWS DOWN RIVER.

BEACHES WHY ARE THEY SO DIFFERENT
WEATHERING EROSION
AND DEPOSITION (O MY)
MECHANICAL
WEATHERING
Frost wedging
When the freezing of water
expands in closed crack
forcing pieces of rock
apart.
MECHANICAL
WEATHERING
Root Pry:
As the plants grow, the roots
pry open the cracks.
MECHANICAL
WEATHERING
Animals:
. Animals that burrow or
build a home in soil can
push smaller rock
fragments to the surface.
These smaller rocks are
now exposed to
weathering. This same
process happens when
animals are searching for
food by scratching,
pecking, or digging
MECHANICAL
WEATHERING
Motion of water
