Robot vs Teacher

advertisement
Robot teachers have been introduced to classrooms all over the world. Do you think robots
have a place in schools? What role can they play in promoting effective teaching? Write a
letter to the editor to share your views.
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my views on robot teachers. In the recent magazine, you (Was it
really the editor that wrote the article you referred to?) said that robots would replace teachers
one day since the technology of robot programming is advancing exponentially. In my
opinion, although robots can play several roles in promoting effective teaching, they can
never replace teachers because of the following reasons. / (How to strengthen your role as a
student:
I have read that robots would replace teachers one day since the technology of robot
programming is advancing exponentially. As a student, I strongly believe that although robots
can play several roles in promoting effective teaching, they can never replace teachers as life
models/guides and can merely serve as teaching assistants to ease busy teachers’ workload.)
One significant disadvantage of robot teachers is the lack of emotions. One important role of
teachers is to provide support and advice to students. However, as robots do not have any
feelings, they cannot help students go through a rough emotional period. Robots also cannot
comfort you students when you they are down. If a robot said, “I am sorry for your
misfortune, I know that you must be very upset”, that doesn’t make you students feel any
better, does it? (You can also write as a student and stress what students would want by using
‘we’.)
Nevertheless, robots still excel supress human teachers in some areas. As robots process a
wide knowledge base, they can provide historical and factual information more effectively
and accurately. On the other hand, not only can robots do paperwork, such as writing and
grading assignments and quizzes quickly, but they also can give constructive comments and
remind students of common mistakes based on the big data. (Do you think robots can mark
your essays or grade your homework for Visual Arts?)
All in all, I believe that robots can act as assistants in classroom learning. Yet, robots cannot
replace teachers in the near future as there are still numerous limitations. Therefore, robots
will have a place in school and promote effective teaching by making up for the weakness of
human teachers.
Yours Faithfully,
Chris Wong

Decent piece of work. Arguments are convincing and properly expanded on. You can do
better by defining the role of teachers and robots in detail. Also, adopt a very clear role that
can make your arguments more convincing to readers. For instance, even if you just write as
a student, you can still convince readers what students really need from teachers.
*Also, pay attention to your pronoun choice.
