1. Reflect on the four pillars of learning. How can you apply these principles in your life as a teacher? The four pillars of learning is said to be the guide and principle of every individual especially for us educators. I truly believe that these four pillars namely learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together partake a great impact in reshaping the 21st education. All the pillars are part of an integral education that allows us to produce learners that is able to defend themselves in a world of constant change and will make them part of a better world. As a 21 century teacher, it is our duty to prepare our students for life, providing them with the skills and tools they will need to hopefully succeed in everything they do. We need to give the students’ knowledge in order to gain the competencies they need to have in their future. If they have this knowledge they can learn to do great things according to their level and capabilities. They learn to make judgments about right and wrong so they can think critically. Also we should let them discover themselves, knowing their strengths and weaknesses and by guiding them to accept who they are and the people around them. They will learn the importance of a person’s essence; that goes beyond social class, color, education and culture. If we can teach them correctly and with care guided with these principles, we will become better teachers and better people as well. 2. What are your significant learnings and insights from the article and why do you consider them significant? By means of reading and answering these, I’ve learned that our greatest role as a teacher is to understand the needs of our student and providing them with learning experiences guided by these four principles. The four pillars talk about their different needs in this new century and how we can help them develop into citizens that can learn to be individuals and still live in a society. After reading this article, I got to the conclusion that all four pillars are important none by itself could make education complete. Taken together, all the four pillars of learning ensures that a person fully develops his/her own potentials in all aspects of his/her personality. Hence, I consider it significant because all this aspects are included in the process of education and by applying each and every one of these basic skills will provide the tools necessary to live correctly and with respect to others.
