[Type here] BENDING PROCEDURE 1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE: To define a method and execute cold field bending of pipe line using a mechanical bending machine, die, and lifting equipment to the satisfaction of the company. It is intended to present basic safety precautions that should be followed in daily operation. 2. REFERANCE: - ASME 31.4 - Pipeline Transportation System for Hydrocarbons and Other Liquids - ASME 31.8 - Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping systems 3. EQUIPMENT Bending Machine Die 4. RESPONSIBILITIES: Construction Manager is responsible for the overall administration of the procedure, including liaison with every Department involved. Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that all personnel will comply with all aspects of this procedure and adhered to client Safety Specification. The Rigger is responsible for lifting and moving operations involving all lifting equipment. He shall be observant, with regard to the safe handling of pipe materials and pipe bending operations. The Bending Operator is responsible for the evaluation, marking of pipe lengths and execution of this procedure to produce an acceptable finished product. The equipment operator shall also be responsible for the safe running of the equipment with regard to personnel involved in pipe bending operations. The equipment operator shall posses a complete understanding of all the operation and maintenance instructions provided by the manufacture. Operator to check the condition of load line, boom line, and general conditions of side boom each day. Certified pipe lifting slings shall be used to perform the work. Sling condition shall be checked daily. 2. All crew members shall be aware of side boom or Crane movements and lifting operations into and out of the bending machine and surrounding area. The banks man shall ensure that no crew member has positioned himself between the pipe and the bending machine. 3. Under no circumstances shall crew members place their limbs or any part of their body between moving parts of the bending machine. 4. Correct PPE shall be used at all times. 5. All crew members are responsible for their own safety and shall warn others of any impending hazard. 5.2 BENDING OPERATION 1. A Bending operator shall be assigned to perform the bending and determine the location of all the bends and provide the equipment suitable for making smooth uniform bends without wrinkles or buckles. 2. All the contact surface of the bending machine shall be adequate to prevent damage to the pipe. 3. A mandrel of sufficient restraint capacity shall be used for all fields bending to ensure smooth uniform bends within the specification. 4. Heating shall not be applied to any pipe for the purpose of bending. 5. A sizing plate shall be pulled thru each field bend to ensure pipe inside diameter is within Company Specification. 6. Bend shall be made in the pipe lay down area and transported to their field location by trucks. 7. Bend shall be made to conform to the bottom of the ditch without the use of external force to hold it in place. 8. On all bends, the longitudinal welds shall be located in neutral axis. A minimum of 6 Ft. (2 m) of straight pipe shall be left at the ends of pipe joints. 9. On completion of the bending operation, the equipment operator shall check the bend for ovality and compliance to drawing requirements with a bending protractor. The equipment operator shall also check for any damage incurred to the pipe through bending, and that the bend conforms to the required tolerance. [Type here] [Type here] 10. The maximum and minimum diameters at any point in the bend shall not exceed two and a half percent (2 'A %) of the specified inside diameter of the pipe. 5.3 Pipe Bending Inspection:The Following will be part of each bend inspection: A) Check Client Engineering Drawings and approved Procedures for bending if available. B) Inspect bending Machine used. C) Check bend by using a sizing plate according to pipe size. D) On all bends, the longitudinal welds shall be located in neutral axis. A minimum of 6 Ft. (2 m) of straight pipe shall be left at the ends of pipe joints. E) Check bends for ovality. F) The maximum and minimum diameters at any point in the bend shall not exceed two and a half percent (2 Yz %) of the specified inside diameter of the pipe. 6.0 RECORD OF REVISION This is the first issue of this procedure; amendments to this procedure shall be documented in this section [Type here]
