Welcome to the first month of "Screen Free Science!" Each month there will be a weekly
checklist of reading assignments and written narrations. This month will be our first meeting
but I would love to have students complete two reading assignments before we gather for
our first in person class. In your portfolio you will have the current meal plan and exercise
routine that will be taught on August 26. Our science lab topics will also be assigned and
you can use these prompts to ask students about what they learned during their lab time.
You can also view the yearly calendar in this portfolio. At each meeting students will recieve
the next month's reading assignments. If you are unable to make any meeting please
arrange a time to pick up the assignments from my home in Spring Hill!
Each meal plan will be sampled but we will omit some ingredients in case of allergies and/or
spices! There won't be enough for a full serving so I do suggest that each month the
students bring their own nut free lunch/snack.

Physics: Wheel and axle
NOTES:
In the last class students learned how to prepare a meal using the Hello Fresh meal
prep instructions. Encourage them to recreate this meal for the family sometime this
month!
Students also have their exercise handout. When we meet for class on September 30 I
would like to hear how students incorporated warm ups, exercise, and stretching
during their daily activities! Keeping our body healthy and strong by developing
positive habits is an important lesson (one that I am still learning at 42 years old!)
I would love to have students share any tips and success stories that can encourage
the rest of us!

WEEK 4
Class Week!
Oct 28
Anatomy Focus:
Diaphragm and heart
Physics: Pulley
NOTES:
The resources used in our classes come from several books published in the 1950s1960s.
All About the Human Body, by Bernard Glemser, 1958
How and Why Wonder Book - Machines, by Dr. Jerome J. Notkin 1960
Simple Machines and How They Work, by Elizabeth N. Sharp, 1959
Machines, by Irving Adler, 1964
Although considered "antique," the literary quality of books published during this era
allows students to easily narrate and enjoy the reading assignments! I hope they have
enjoyed the selections!

Welcome back to the 2nd semester! Next month we will begin working through a
checklist to create a science fair project! Mark your calendars for May 12th and begin
plans on what your child would like to share at the science fair! You can make it as
simple as creating drawings on a poster board, or bring elements to share a science
experiment with an audience!
To start researching online, here is a great website:

NOTES:
We have enjoyed using our lab experiment kits during this year. We have one more
month where the kits will stay with Mrs. RaeAnna. On April 21 students will bring their
lab kits home with them and could use the Squishy Human Body or Simple Machines
Kit for their science fair project demonstrations.
I hope students have enjoyed sharing what they learn each week in their readings and
coming home with new cooking, exercise, and science ideas from our monthly class
together!
In the portfolio, have students complete the science fair worksheet. You can read
about the project here and also here
