DOL (Direct Online Starters): Mostly used for small motors, usually <7.5 kW. High starting current. High starting torque (Causing mechanical wear). Shortest possible starting time. Compact starter. Always direct stop. Cheap solution. Star Delta Starters (Y/D): line voltage = root(3) *phase voltage. line current =phase current. Star Delta Starters (Y/D): line voltage = phase voltage. line current = root(3) * phase current. Star Delta Starters (Y/D): Mostly used for medium motors, usually <15 kW. Low starting current. Low starting torque (often too low). Long starting time. Always direct stop. Meany devices-Complex wiring. Double motor Cables. VSD (Variable Speed Drives): VSD (Variable Speed Drives): Inverters using sine-coded pulse-width-modulation (PWM) technology. The PWM works by first converting the incoming ac power to dc using a diode n bridge rectifier. The voltage is then filtered, smoothed and passed on to the PWM inverting section. The inverter consists of high speed bipolar that control both voltage and frequency sent to the motor. Output voltage is adjusted by changing the width and number of the voltage pulses while output frequency is varied by changing the length of the cycle. Fire scenarios ventilation Sandwich system: -A building is divided into a number of smoke zones, each zone is separated from others by partitions, floors, and doors that can be closed to inhibit smoke movement. -Exhaust air of smoked zone : allow for 6 air changes/hr through centralized exhaust fans & controlled fire damper for ducts as per fire zones configuration. -In the event of a fire, pressure difference and airflows produced by mechanical fans(use same concept)limit the spread of smoke from the zone where fire is initiated to the other zones. -All escaping routes {Lift lobby & Stairs} should be pressurized to facilitate the evacuation safely.
