full of hope or full of
despair?
Abdullah, Christopher, Radik
1) Present circumstances
Economy:
•
One of the largest economies in Africa due to petroleum
==> Rapid economic growth in transportation, construction, manufacturing, and
government services
==> High Independence from oil price and imbalance in the agricultural sector
•
National budget used for debt repayment + Corruption
==> Very little of Nigeria’s income was being spent on the people and their needs
Social:
•
Majority of Nigerian youth (50% of the
population) lost their jobs due to collapsing or
relocating of companies
==> Rate of unemployment tripled from what it
was after the election in May 2015
==> Frustration about lack of necessities like
security, electricity, infrastructure, and jobs
•
Major ethnic and religious divide
==> Tension and conflicts between groups
