Grade 5th Graders - Year 1 8th Graders - Year 2 Unit Names Digital World September - First Quarter I am Designing my own Web Site Second Term Key Concept Communication Communities Related Concepts Form, Perspective, Evaluation Form, Perspective Global Context Identities and Relationships Scientific and Technical Innovation Area of Exploration Human nature and human dignity; moral reasoning and ethical judgment; consciousness and mind. Digital life, virtual environments, and the Information Age Statement of Inquiry Some problems that emerge with scientific and technical innovation and affect societies can be presented in different ways by solving in collaboration. We can use tools that emerge with scientific and technical innovations in ways (forms) that reflect different perspectives and are beneficial for the community. Factual question Conceptual question: Debatable question ● ● What does “Digital” mean? What is Metaverse? ● What does differ the digital world from the real one? What are the rules being in a digital world? ● ● ● Can humans live in a digital world? Can we decide on a common agreement to live in a digital world? What does “technology” mean? What are the communication ways between humans? ● ● How do we communicate in digital life? ● Did scientific and technical innovation change our way of communication? Having tons of web site on the web is beneficial or has harm to the people? ● Design Guide For use from September 2014/January 2015 Year 3 Objective A: Inquiring and analyzing i. explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem Objective A: Inquiring and analyzing ii. construct a research plan, which states and In order to reach the aims of design, prioritizes the primary and secondary research students should be able to: needed to develop a solution to the problem i. explain and justify the need for a solution iii. analyse a group of similar products that to a problem inspire a solution to the problem ii. state and prioritize the main points of iv. develop a design brief, which presents the research needed to develop a solution to analysis of relevant research. the problem Objective B: Developing ideas iii. describe the main features of an existing i. develop a design specification, which outlines product that inspires a solution to the the success criteria for the design of a solution problem based on the data collected MYP Objectives MYP: Design (For use from September 2014/ January 2015) Year 1 MYP Objectives ● ● iv. present the main findings of relevant research Objective B: Developing ideas In order to reach the aims of design, students should be able to: i. develop a list of success criteria for the solution ii. present feasible design ideas, which can be correctly interpreted by others iii. present the chosen design ii. present a range of feasible design ideas, which can be correctly interpreted by others iii. present the chosen design and outline the reasons for its selection iv. develop accurate planning drawings/diagrams and outline requirements for the creation of the chosen solution. TASK C1 Construct a detailed and logical plan, which describes the efficient use of time and resources, sufficient for peers to be able to follow to create the solution A: Inquiring & Analysing TASK A1 Explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem for a specified client/target audience TASK C1 A: Inquiring & Analysing TASK A1 TASK A2 TASK A3 TASK A4 Summative assessment B: Developing Ideas TASK B1 TASK D1 TASK B2 TASK B3 TASK B4 C: Creating the Solution TASK C2 TASK C3 TASK C4 D: Evaluating TASK D1 & D2 & D3 & D4 This should be a statement ● What is the nature of the problem? explain what is occurring (or not) that makes this a problem ● Who is it affecting? - client/customer (target market) ● Where is the problem occurring? - this can include a photograph ● What are the benefits of solving this problem? - quotable research ● What will you do to solve this problem? TASK A1 In this section, you will organize questions for your research. The answers to these questions should explain how you can find a better and a simple solution to the problem. Please find topics for your research questions. Find questions for each title. Prioritize your questions. You may find some possible resource samples below ● What images will be engaging to my target audience? (Primary) ● What information do I need to gather for my Website idea? (Primary & Secondary) ● What skills do I need to learn before understanding web development? TASK A3 In this section, you will do some research about the current solution to your problem. Then, you will write an article. Your article should involve the items below Please explain your solution. SWOT Analysis Strengths: ● Portfolio has elements that my audience can relate to (imagery) ● Navigation and user experience is clear. Weaknesses ● Text is hard to read, buttons are hard to find Opportunities ● Similar way to present information but for my achievements Threats ● Teachers, administrators, colleges could take offense. TASK A4 Summarize and conclude what you have found out in your Research, and how this will help you solve the “Design problem.” Consider this research and decide what topic you would like to focus on and why. B: Developing Ideas TASK B1 What design specifications will make your end product or solution successful? Write your ideas down in the imperative form (i.e. it must do..., it has to include…). Success Criterias, you can use SMART Goal framework. Or you can try to answer these type of questions: ● The site is aesthetically pleasing. ● The site has a specific function (what?) ● The site is designed for....? TASK B2 Mockup design is an integral part of the design process when making an app or a web site. Based on your idea, create a working flow of how you think your web site will work using Adobe XD or similar programs to it or alternatively sketch your ideas in a similar layout. TASK B3 Share the mockup ideas with your peers, family or teachers to determine how effectively others think that these site ideas meet the design specifications you have developed. Get at least 3 feedback from your peers and if you can from your web sites audiences and Ask them to evaluate your concepts sketches against your specifications TASK B4 Go back to your mockup design and make the changes yaccording to feedbacks.Show the changes on your mockup. Add notes and comments. C: Creating the Solution TASK C2 While you are creating your site, you must document the process that you have gone through to demonstrate the technical skills you are learning. This can later serve as a road-map to create similar products or solutions. You should write down your notes and comments about Steps taken, time that you spent on a task or learning process, resources that you used and a paragraph about the process(you need to make changes on that paragraph constantly) TASK C3 Present your final design (site) and document whether or not you met your key dates or had to change your ideas from the wire-framing concepts. This can also be a few screenshots and a link to your final portfolio site. During the design cycle, it is rare that everything goes to plan. Measurements need to be adjusted, unforeseen events interfere with key dates. TASK C4 With your presentation, document any challenges that you encountered while making your product or solution and describe what changes you made to your design and plan as a result. D: Evaluating TASK D1 & D2 & D3 & D4 Record a video that reflect your solution’s performance. ● Go back to the design specifications that you created in B1. Use testing methods that you considered using to test if those specifications would be successful. ○ Survey, Checklist, Observation etc. ● ● ● Evaluate the success of the testing. Were your design specifications met? ○ Compare the design specifications at B1 and testin result at D1. Talk about the improvements that can you apply to your solution after testing. Add your comments about the impact of the solution of the client or target audience. ○ You can explain your thoughts trough out those questions. ■ To what extent has the client’s or target audience’s problem been solved? ■ How does this solution improve the client’s or target audience’s situation? ■ To what extent has the design brief been met?
