Exchange Student’s Speech
1st speech’s summery
1st speaker is from Laos. She told about the relations between Laos and
neighboring countries of it. There are some countries around Laos such as
Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand. Thailand is located south of Laos. Laos
and Thailand have a cordial relationship and some common points. Laos is deeply
tied to Thailand culturally and politically. The local foods of both countries
are very similar and the national dresses are also similar. Lao language and Tai
language have same word. Furthermore, people of these countries can enter
another counties without passport. Therefore, Laos people often visit the
beaches in Thailand in summer. Additionally, people in Vietnam, which be located
north of Laos, also visit Thailand though Laos for vacation.
Impression
I had not known about relations of foreign countries well before this speech,
but I knew about the connection of Laos and its neighboring countries. And then,
I became be interested in international relations. Japan has some relation to
other countries and sometimes it have problem. I hope that someday these
problematic relation become peaceful bonds like the connection of Laos and
Thailand.
I learned than using easy quizzes helps get attentions of audiences.
2nd speech’s summery
2nd speaker is from India. He told about the public transportation in India. The
load transportation is important for India. It’s common to travel in a threewheeler auto rickshaw, known as a ‘tuk-tuk’. They have a small cabin for the
driver and seat for the passengers. In addition, there is famous taxi called
Munbai Taxi, which be used as sightseeing transportation. Its engines are made
by Japanese car maker Isuzu. Moreover, there are railways in India. India has
two types of trains, local train and express train. But, there are not many
trains, so many people get on a train and trains are crowded with a lot of
people.
Impression
I had known about the crowded transportation of India from a picture of train
full of people. Therefore, it was interesting to know about transportations of
India. There are 1.3 billion people in India and the transportation network is
necessary for living. That is why, I thought that developing of public
transportation is very important for India.
I learned a technique to attract audience to a speech. He asked about Japan
before he start talking about his home country. It makes the topic he talk more
close for audience.
3rd speech’s summery
3rd speaker is from China. He told about the differences of geography and food
in China. The inland region of China is a mountainous area and the sea side is a
flatland. When it comes to industry, the more plane the grand is, the more
suitable for it. That is because, industry needs transportation and
transportation needs flatland. Therefore, China has poverty gap between inland
and sea side. Furthermore, there are also some differences of food. The food of
the north part of China is called Beijing food, which is mainly salty and strong
taste. On the other hand, the food of south part of China is called Cantonese
cuisine, which is mainly sweet and weak taste. Moreover, the food of the east
part of China is called Shanghai cuisine, which is mainly sour taste.
Additionally, the food of the middle of China is called Sichuan cuisine, which
is mainly spicy taste.
Impression
Before the speech I assumed that I knew most of China, but it was
misunderstanding. I didn’t know the taste of Chinese food is significantly
different depending on the part. I thought that it was interesting and the
climate of the part relates to these difference.
He used gesture exaggeratedly to explain how big China is. I learned that
gestures are very effective when I want to emphasize and I should overdo
especially when I explain really important things.
4th speech’s summery
4th speaker is from Thailand. He told about the Tai language. Tai language has 9
vowels and 42 consonant. Furthermore, it has 5 different pronunciation. These
have different tone which refers to a change in the pitch of a syllable during
its pronunciation. In Tai language, every syllable is pronounced in one of five
tones: low, mid, high, falling, or rising. Additionally, written characters of
tai language are very unique. Each character has a small circle at the end of
the line. Moreover, a lot of words in Tai language came from other languages
such as Sanskrit, Pali, Burmese and Chinese.
Impression
I could not believe that there are 5 different tones for each letter. Since I
could not identify these 5 tones, I thought that it was so hard that I could not
understand Tai language. However, it was very interesting that the characters of
Tai language are individual. I thought that these letters are cute and I was
curious about the way of writing in Tai language.
He gave us some example to explain in detail by actuary pronouncing some words.
Therefore, I thought that really showing example is an effective way to make
audience understood.
