“BLOODY SUNDAY”
“Bloody sunday” è il nome di una tragedia avvenuta la domenica del 30
gennaio 1972 a Derry, una città dell’Irlanda del Nord.
in quegli anni era molto forte la divisione tra coloro che volevano un’Irlanda
unita e coloro che volevano che l’Irlanda del Nord rimanesse parte il Regno
Unito.
Il 30 gennaio 1972 a Derry ci fu una manifestazione pacifica dei sostenitori
dell’unificazione irlandese. Tuttavia una squadra di paracadutisti dell’esercito
britannico, agli ordini del colonnello Derek Wilford, aprì il fuoco sulla folla.
Morirono in tutto 14 persone, tra cui alcuni minorenni, e ci furono dei feriti. Fu
provato che tutti coloro che furono uccisi dai soldati erano disarmati e alcuni di
loro furono colpiti alla schiena.
Nonostante l’opinione pubblica mondiale fosse sconvolta, il governo del Regno
Unito non punì i responsabili.
Il testo del brano è infatti un inno alla fratellanza tra gli esseri umani. Il
capolavoro degli U2 non è un attacco agli inglesi o una canzone di rivolta, bensì
un messaggio di unione tra i popoli. Il ritornello di Sunday Bloody Sunday non
contiene parole di astio, ma pone invece una tanto semplice quanto complicata
domanda: “per quanto ancora dovremo cantare questa canzone?”

“Bloody Sunday”is the name of a tragedy that took place on Sunday 30th
January 1972 in Derry,a city in Northern Ireland.
In those years the division between those how wanted an Ireland was very
strong united and those how wanted northern Ireland to remain part of U.K.
On January 30th 1972 there was a peach full ilistration of supporters in Derry
Irish unification. However a squad of army paratroopers British under the orders
of a Colonel Wilford Opened file on the crowd. A total of 14 people died, including
some minors, and there were injuries. It was proved that all those killed by the
soldiers were unarmed and some of them were shoot in the back although world
public opinion was shocked,the government of U.K. do not punish those
responsible.
The text of the passage is in fact a hymn to brotherhood among human beings.
U2’s masterpiece is not an attack on the british or a song of revolt, put a
messege of union between people. The Sunday bloody Sunday refrain dose not
contain word of hatred, put instead poses one as simple as it is complicated
asks: “how long will we have to sing this song?”
