Grade 5 Alberta Math Curriculum Independent Practice ©Simpson’s Schoolhouse Grade 5 Alberta Math Curriculum Independent Practice It is extremely important for students to problem solve, work with manipulatives, think creatively, and solve open ended problems. Sometimes however, they just need an opportunity to practice, generalize skills or show the skills they know before applying those skills in a more meaningful way. In addition, the language attached to many math practice pages is too difficult, or the pages are very visually distracting. These are the reasons these independent practice pages were created. Straightforward skill and concept practice, for all strands of the Alberta Math Curriculum, all in one place! They are also great for students using work systems (see the TEACCH method). The Curriculum expectations for each strand are included, with the picture of a or beside it, to indicate which expectations are covered in the practice pages. Some couldn’t be included because they require students to describe, build, create, etc. the concept being worked on. I hope you find these time saving and helpful!
