GORDON’S 11 FUNCTIONAL HEALTH PATTERN 1. Pattern of Health Perception & Health Management The client being a child said that he thinks that fever is just nothing and he still can do a lot of things like playing and doing some household chores. Although moving a lot could affect your fever he did not think of that, he stills do things on his own. He continuously plays outside and enjoy even though he has a fever, thinking that it would probably just go away. He verbalized that he gets sick because he would grew taller, and because of too much exposure to heat and sometimes he plays in the rain, he then gets a fever and he could not attend his classes because he needs to stay at home to rest. Because he’s curious about learning new things especially related to fever and he enthusiastically participates because it would be fun to have some new stored knowledge. He learns in school that you have to eat healthy foods to keep away the infections or germs. 2. Nutritional-Metabolic Patterns The client loves eating junk foods; he said in the interview that he usually eats cheese curls, chocolates, burger, fries, soft drinks, etc. He eats 3 times a day when being asked about his food intake. He seldom eats vegetables especially the ampalaya because it is bitter in taste. He eats fish when it is being cooked by his mother and he really loves to eat meat especially the fired chicken which is his favorite. Also, he said that he rarely drinks water and loves to drink his milk. Now that he is ill, he eats minimally because he has less appetite than usual. The client is currently prescribed to increase fluid intake. 3. Pattern of Elimination The client takes his bowel every day and urinates at a minimum of 4 times a day. His urine is slightly yellowish. But since he is currently ill, his urination lessen and he is urinating 2 times a day and his bowel movements became 3 times a week. 4. Activity-Exercise Pattern 1. History According to the client, he loves to play outside after their class and during their break time. He plays with his friends; running around the campus, playing hide and seek, etc. He really loves the subject Physical Education (PE) because he can play with his classmates and enjoy things. He does love to play outdoors and when he’s at home he do some chores then go to the computer shop to play some online games. General appearance 5. Cognitive-Perceptual Pattern The patient is very cooperative and active during the interview; he hears and answers every question I ask to him. He has no hearing difficulty and does not use any hearing aid. His vision is normal and he does not wear any eyeglasses nor does he have experienced any eye check-ups. He understands very well and can perfectly remember the things that I said. Since, he is in the stage that he has a less authority, he needs his mother or father’s permission in decision making even though he can make a decision but it is still his parent’s decision. When being tested to read a book in which he can read well and when I whispered a word he can state the words that I whispered. He is perfectly well. The language that he speaks is tausug and can speak in tagalog, and can speak a basic English. 6. Sleep & Rest Pattern The client usually sleeps early around 8-9 pm in the evening and wakes up around 6 am to prepare himself before going to school at 7:30 am. During weekdays he spends his time doing his home works, helps in household chores, and plays with his friends outside. Then, in the afternoon around 3 pm he sleeps for the afternoon nap. 7. Self-Perception & Self-Concept Pattern The client said that he is optimistic and friendly. He could make friends anywhere he goes because he is just too friendly and he is not the shy type. He would talk to you with a wide grin plastered on his face and he has that positive vibe that even you could feel it. He is a very naughty boy when he’s at home especially to his mom because he loves to irritate his mom with the silly things he does and he explained that it is just how shows his love towards his mom. He sometimes gets angry when someone uses his tablet without his permission because that tablet was given by his father to him during his birthday and he treasures it so much. 8. Role-Relationship Pattern The client is very active in school and participates well. He doesn’t have any problems regarding socializing with other people since he is not shy. He is an obedient son and loves his family so much. He and his family have a tight relationship that they always support him on whatever he does. Since he loves playing he often invites their neighborhood’s son and plays with his other friends. 9. Sexuality-Reproductive Pattern. The client is a school age child and a male. He does not have any problem with regards to his sexuality. 10. Coping & Stress Tolerance Pattern The client said that when he feels that he is stress he talks to his mother or sister or sometimes he plays computer games just to divert his attention. He radiates positivity and he is very optimistic. He does not have any traumatic events experienced. 11. Values & Beliefs Pattern The client is a Muslim. He is practicing to pray five times a day. He believes that we must do good things to enter paradise. Religion is very important for him because he was thought to have fear on God and to never do those that would disappoint him because he would not give you the things that you wanted in life.
