Question Description
Calculate maximum vertical stresses at suitable point of a pile group taking
1
u=0.3, Use details of Figure 1 for solution. Compare your results with
conventional analysis method also. You can Assume point or UDL if require.
Estimate negative skin friction for a pile group shown in Figure 2. Group is

accumulated circular and resting in soil which is in continuous consolidation
state. Angle of friction is (5 + Roll number/12)0.

Design a pile for Multan Metro project if the axial design load is
(700 + 10 x Roll number) KN. Material properties are fc’=28 MPa and 1%
steel is allowed for design. List down the design summary as results also.
Burj Khalifa is a high rise building which has a factored load of 1500 KN on
every pile. Pile is circular with diameter of 2m if the pile length of the structure
is assumed 150+ Roll number meter and over all soil is sand with  = 20. As a
foundation expert comment about the pile design will it pass or fail. Justify
your answer by numerical values. If a W/T is maintained throughout the length
of pile then how much extra capacity we can attain?
A pile having 2m diameter is penetrated through a soft clay 10m, soft silty clay
(100- Roll number) m and a dense gravely sand Roll number m. The W/T is at
mid of the pile length. SPT blow are counted ranged 10-20 for first two type
and 50-60 for third type of material respectively. As an Engineer calculate
maximum load carrying capacity of pile. If the pile become foot resting type
of pile the what are your comments about its capacity. Justify your comment
by numerical values.
A foundation of 4m x 2m carrying a uniform pressure of (200+ Roll number)
KPa, located at 1.5 m in a layer of clay 4 m thick for which Eu=45MPa. The
layer is under lined by second layer of thickness of 8 m having Eu=80MPa.
The third stratum is sand and GWT is at the depth of foundation. Determine
the average immediate and maximum possible settlement under the
foundation.
