TEACHING LEARNING PLAN- Robin Keller
NURS 2002 Community Nursing Practicum
This semester will focus on both virtual and in person learning experiences to aid 2nd year nursing students in their
learning around the Care of The Young Family.
Students will use Professional nursing bodies like CNA, CNO, RNAO, CASN, CDC, UN, etc to bring in a global
community perspective. Students will identify supportive community partners to learn about support for their
population.
Major concepts include the Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and include Primary Health Care and Primary
Health Care Principles (PHCP), Social Determinants of Health (DOH), Diversity, Vulnerable populations, Social
justice, Environmental/ global health issues, and Population health. These concepts fit within our conceptual
Program Framework with the Brock-Loyalist Collaborative Program.
At the end of this clinical experience (6 wks), students will be able to:
-combine the knowledge, application skills, and attitudes which integrate the affective components of creativity,
curiosity, open-mindedness, intuition and reflection with the skills of problem-solving and decision-making when
providing care for diverse and vulnerable populations.(PLO 1)
-provide competent nursing care, incorporating the principles of PHC in nursing practice when providing care for
diverse clients. (PLO 2)
-demonstrate effective communication skills when providing care for all clients (PLO 3)
-demonstrate respect for diversity when providing care for all clients. (PLO 4)
-promote health through effective socio-political action strategies for all childbearing clients. (PLO 5)
-demonstrates safe, accountable, responsible nursing care when providing care for all clients. (PLO 6).
Students will reflect on their learning using the Student-Teacher Reflective Practice Evaluation, providing examples
to support the PLOs identified as being met. Students are expected to submit weekly by due date.
Required Readings and preparation before the learning experience:
Students will review previously learned theory on Ethical practice, Determinants of Health, Primary Health Care,
Primary Health Care Principles, and CNO Standards of Practice (CNO, 2020).
In preparation for each community learning session, students are required and responsible to prepare for
their placement by conducting and reading research related to their learning experiences, the population you
are working with, and Best Practice guidelines
