TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGIES PRE-LESSON LESSON DEVELOPMENT 1. 2. 3. Pupils discuss 3 questions in Activity 1 in their textbook page 77 in pairs. A few pairs share their discussion with the class. Pupils discuss as a class what sort of language can be used to show that one is not sure about what one saying, and a list is written on the board (ex: probably, but…….) 4. Pupils read the instructions and the phrases in the orange box in Activity 2. 5. Pupils complete 5 sentences in Activity 2 using the phrases in the orange box and then identify phrases that show the speaker is uncertain. 6. Pupils check their answers in pairs before discussing as a class. 7. Pupils read the information in the Download box and one pupil is chosen to explain the tip in his or her own words. 8. Pupils read through the Language Bank box before reading the instructions in Activity 3. 9. Pupils work in pairs to take turns to ask and answer questions about 2 sets of pictures (Picture A/B and Pictures C/D) using the words and phrases in the Language Bank.(Main Skill) 10. A few pairs demonstrate the task in front of the class. 11. Pupils discuss 3 questions in Activity 4 in pairs. 12. Pupils then switch to a new partner and justify their opinions about the 3 questions in Activity 4 with at least 1 reason for each. (Complementary Skill) Differentiated Actvities: DIFFERENTIATION STRATEGIES Less proficient pupils: Provide cards with the appropriate language from the Language Bank or relevant phrases such as ‘Yes, that’s an excellent idea but what if…’ or ‘I agree with you that….is a good idea and also…’ More proficient pupils: 13. Pupils review their learning in this lesson by identifying with their talk partner(s) at least three new words or expressions that they have learned in relation to the topic of crime. 14.
