tremors, fatigue, drowsiness, insomnia
headaches; sudden weight loss, GI
bleeding, serotonin syndrome, bruxism
Patient verbalizes feeling less
anxious and more relaxed and
improved mood
Improved ability to cope with
stressors
Greater ability to participate in
social occupational interaction
report adverse effects to
provider
take medication as
prescribed
educate that it can take
up to 4 weeks to feel
effects
Promote cellular uptake of glucose
rapidly for glycemic control of
diabetes mellitus
If patient becomes hypoglycemic,
hypokalemic, shows confusion, cold
sweats, dizziness, or tachycardia
15-30 minutes after drug
administration, blood glucose levels
should decline due to fast-acting

Always have snack with

Do Not use NovoLog with
low BP

Dose-dependent on sliding scale, can
be up to 24 hour duration with higher
doses. Promotes glycemic control of
diabetes mellitus over an extended
period
Signs of intolerance will include
hypoglycemia, CNS effects such as
palpitations, shakiness, disorientation.
Tachycardia, swelling, rash or itching.
Should stabilize glucose levels over a
period of up to 24 hours. Onset of
lowered blood glucose should occur
within 1 to 4 hours.
Do Not share meds.
Always have a snack with
glucose ready. Educate pt
that it is long-term acting,
will work evenly for up to
24 hours.
