Banayar TECHNIQUES AND SKILLS OF VOLLEYBALL The game is played between two teams each having 6 players. The object is to shed the ball over a thin net and within the boundaries of a court so that the opposing team is unable to return or prevent it from hitting the ground. Though actual game starts by a ser vice, coaching commences with the pass. This is because most of the game is played by pass. Boundary Lines → Width: 5cms. (2”) – which shall be drawn at least 2m (6’6”) from all obstructions c. Center Lines (ends with the side lines) → A line beneath the net, 5cms. Attack Area →The attack area is marked out by the entire center line and the attack line, extends indefinitely beyond the side line. e. Service Area f. Minimum Temperature: →The temperature shall not be below 10ºC (50ºF) RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Villanueva RULE 2: The Net a. Size and Construction → The net shall be 1m (3’3”) deep and 9.5m (32’) long, and made up of 10cms. (4”) square mesh. A flexible cable shall be stretched through the canvas. b. Height → MEN = 2.43m (7’11 5/8”); WOMEN = 2.24m (7’4/8”) The two ends of the net must be of equal height from the ground and cannot exceed the regulation height by more than 2cms. (3/4”). Vertical Side Markers and Flexible Sticks →Two movable tapes of 5cms(2”) wide white material, 1m(3’3”) long shall be fastened at each end of the net, vertical to the side lines and center line. →The tapes and sticks are considered as part of the net. →The posts supporting the net must be at least 50cm(20”) from the side lines and shall not interfere with the duties of the referee or the umpire. VOLLEYBALL COURT Villanueva RULES OF VOLLEYBALL RULE 3: The Ball →The ball shall be spherical, made of a supple leather case with the bladder made of rubber or similar material. →The ball shall be in uniform in color; indoors – this color shall be light →Circumference: 66cms. ± 1cm Weight: 270 gms. ± 10 grms Villanueva RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Inoferio RULE 4: Rights and Duties of Players 1) All players must know the rules of the game and abide them. 2) During the game, only the team captain can address concerns to the referee and/or umpires. 3) Conduct of Players, Substitutes and Coaches 4) Penalties: a. Minor Offense – warning → (repetitive) 1 point loss b. Serious Offense – disqualification from the rest of the set or the match RULES OF VOLLEYBALL RULE 5: The Teams Inoferio 1) Player’s Kits a. CLOTHING: jersey, shorts, and light and pliable shoes(rubber of leather soles without heels). It is forbidden to wear head gear or any article (jewels, pins, bracelets, etc.) b. Players’ jersey must be marked with numbers of between 815cms(3”-6”) high on the chest and numbers of 15cms(6”) high on the back c. The team must appear on the court dressed in clean, presentable kits of the same color. RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Inoferio RULE 5: The Teams 2) Composition of Teams and Substitution a. During the game, there shall only be 6 players in the court. Each team, including the substitutes, may not exceed 12 players. b.Substitutes and coaches must be on the side of the court, opposite the playing area. c.Substitution of Players RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Inoferio RULE 5: The Teams 3) Position of Players a. Frontline Players – are three players at the net, occupying from left to right b. Backline Players – are the other three players in the back, occupying from right to left NOTE: The position of the players on the court must conform to the rotation order recorded on the score sheet. RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Inoferio RULE 5: The Teams 4) Errors in the Positioning of a Player If a team is found to be out of position, the play must be stopped and the error is corrected. The team in error shall resume its position and shall be penalized by giving the point to the opponent. RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Inoferio RULE 6: Team Coaches, Managers, and Captains Team coaches, managers, and captains are responsible for team discipline. Right to request a time-out to speak with the players. Coaches and managers cannot enter the court and shall not contest the decision of the referee. The captain is the only player on the court who may speak to the officials. He has authority over all players and officials and can over-rule decisions. RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Pon RULE 9: The Umpire (assists the Referee) The umpire shall be placed on the other side of the court facing the referee. 1) He blows the whistle when a player has crossed the center line or has illegally played the ball within the attack zone. 2) He signals any contact of the ball with vertical flexible sticks on his side of net or any passing of the ball over and outside them. 3) He times the duration of times-out. RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Pon RULE 9: The Umpire (assists the Referee) 4) He supervises the conduct of coaches and substitutes the bench. 5) He authorizes substitutions if requested by team captains or coaches. 6) He judges contacts with the net, except those over near to the top of the net. Position of the Officials Villanueva RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Matu-og RULE 10: The Scorer The scorer’s position is on the opposite side of the referee and behind the umpire. Some of his duties include: Recording of players’ names at the beginning of the match and obtains the signatures of the captains and coaches for substitutions Score-recording all throughout the match Keeping an eye on numbers of time-out called and available for each team in every set. RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Matu-og RULE 11: The Linesmen Where there is only the minimum number of two linesmen, they should sit at diagonally opposite corners of the court at a distance of one meter indoors and three meters outdoors. Each linesmen watches the side-line and the end-line nearest to him. The linesmen signal to the referee. They raise the flag when the ball is “out” and point it downwards when the ball is “in”. RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Matu-og RULE 12: Duration of Game and Choice of Ends 1) Number of sets in a match: 5 sets 2) Choice of ends: the captain toss a coin to decide ends and service (preference). 3) Choice of end for the deciding set: the referee makes a new toss of the coin. 4) Change of ends: Teams must change ends after each set, except when the following set is the decider. 5) Change of ends in the middle of the deciding set: Change when one team reach 8 points in the decider. Substitutions: • • 1) Following the substitution, the play will resume immediately. 2) In the case of injury, an interruption of 3 minutes will be allowed and will not be counted as time-out. This can only ne allowed if the injured player cannot be replace. As soon as the referee notices an injury, he shall stop the game. RULES OF VOLLEYBALL Matu-og RULE 12: Duration of Game and Choice of Ends • B. Intervals Between Sets: • A maximum interval of 2 minutes is allowed between sets. However, the interval between the 4th and the 5th set is five minutes. C. Interruption of the Match Macadangdang RULES OF VOLLEYBALL RULE 14: Change of Service 1) Change of service: Service is changed when the serving team commits a fault. 2) Side-out: The service will change side when a “side-out” is called. Macadangdang RULES OF VOLLEYBALL RULE 15: Rotation 1) On a change of service, the team to serve will rotate one position clockwise before serving. 2) Change of position at the beginning of the new set: new line-up Macadangdang RULES OF VOLLEYBALL RULE 16: Hitting the Ball during Play During Play →Each team is allowed a maximum of three successive contacts with the ball. →The ball may be hit with any part of the body. →Held ball: when the ball rest momentarily in the hands or arms of a player. →Double hit: a player contacting the ball more than once.
