MODAL VERBS
GENERAL DIRECTIONS: This Learner’s Activity Sheet will help you learn more about
modal verbs. Follow the instructions in each activity.
✓ Modals are helping verbs which express the ‘mode’ or ‘manner’ of the
actions indicated by the main verbs. By using them, a person may talk
about ability, possibility, probability, permission, obligation, etc.
✓ Here are some examples of modals: can, could, may, might, will, would,
shall, should, may, might, must, had to, ought to, should, etc.
