IMPROMPTU SPEECH ASSESSMENT Get ready to speak spontaneously! Off the cuff! An impromptu speech is presented with very little or no preparation time at all but it is based on any background knowledge that one possess on a certain given topic. Having the ability to speak “at the spur of the moment” marks the true skills of a good public speaker. As one of your on-going assessment, you are required to deliver an Impromptu Speech in Week 7 of this semester. The topics can range from personal topics to very general words encountered every day. The method of assessment is as below: 1. The list of names of presenters will be released the week prior to the presentation week. So please be aware of your day of presentation. 2. Your name will be called out and you will pick a topic from the box. 3. You are then given 2 minutes to prepare your thoughts on the chosen topic. 4. Lastly, you have 2 minutes to speak on the chosen topic. The assessment rubric is as given in the next page. You will be graded based on the rubric and the percentage of this assessment is 10% from your overall on-going assessment mark. Failure to arrive on the given date of presentation without any proof of a medical certificate (MC) will result in 0 marks for this assessment. GOOD LUCK!!!
