Lesson No. 3 Endangered Species in the Philippines Activity No 4. Endangered Species Graphic Organizer Animal Name: Isabela Oriole Scientific Name: Oriolus Isabellae Facts: - The Isabela oriole is a species of the oriole family endemic to Luzon in the Philippines. The bird was presumed to be extinct for many years until its rediscovery in December 1993 near Diffun, Quirino, and in Mansarong, Baggao, Cagayan in September 1994. Habitat: - The Isabela oriole is found in the mountains of northern Luzon. Reasons why they are endangered: - Due to the rapid and widespread deforestation which has plucked Luzon of much of its forest cover (down as much as 83% since the 1930s in some areas), numbers of this little-known species plummeted such that for a time until its rediscovery in December 1993, it was widely believed to have gone extinct. Ways how could we save them: - To protect the Isabela oriole from extinction, we also have to protect its lowland forest habitat. And along with that, we can protect other species that live in the same habitat and also secure the future of the local communities who depend on the forest for their sustenance and livelihood,
