VIDEO REVIEW SHEET

1. TITLE OF VIDEO:
The Civil War – Universe of Battle
2. SUBJECT/CONTENT:
The subject of the video is an insightful documentary format on the battles and
life after and during the civil war.
3. SPECIAL EFFECTS: (Music, Photography, Characterizations, Narration
Techniques, For Example).
The music used in the video is very patriotic when its at a very impactful scene in
the history of the civil war. And in every segment of the video, the music fit the
scene with helped with immersion. The visuals were very gruesome in details
about the battlefield, scenery that may be experienced or was experienced by the
people who wrote about it in great depth. The narration was really good as the
voice that was talking contains a very slow southern American accent making it
easy to follow along with the story.
4. LIST FOUR IMPORTANT AND/OR INTERESTING POINTS OR FACTS
THAT YOU LEARNED FROM THIS VIDEO:
1. The Civil war is one of the most impactful war in American history because of
its origin. There was not one reason for the beginning of the war as there were
many things Americans could not agree on states that would and would not
have slavery, The Abolition Act, and multiple disagreements in the North and
South.
2. The Union Army was actually a multi-race army. Containing several ethnic
parties such as Germans, free African-Americans during the time, French,
Scottish, and Italian. It was said that the diversity influx is what helped turn
the tide a bit in the war.
3. On July 4, 1863, after 48 days of siege, Confederate General John C.
Pemberton surrendered the city of Vicksburg to Union General Ulysses S.
Grant. The Fourth of July would not be celebrated in Vicksburg for another 81
years.
4. The words "In God We Trust" started to appear on US currency during the
war. The reason why is because religious sentient was heighten in the Civil
war. That had the US officials feel it was an action they had to take to make
the motto appear on US currency.
5. CRITIQUE: RATE THIS VIDEO ACCORDING TO YOUR
RECOMMENDATION. WHY OR WHY NOT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND
THIS VIDEO AND TO WHOM WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT? BE
SPECIFIC AND OFFER CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS. DO NOT USE THE
WORD “LIKE” IN THE ANSWER:
I would rate this video a 10/10. The way everything is presented to the audience is
very easy to follow and the Narration sets the mood for the serious events that
occurred. The visuals showed us a glimpse of what the people during that time
lived through. And the music fit every scene in the video. I’d recommend this to
people who like to watch long entertaining documentaries about important US
events to get a better understanding for it.
