LEARNING OBJECTIVE
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO DEFINE AND ANALYZE THE WAYS TO
INCREASE THE PRODUCTIVITY AND ALSO ABLE TO DEFINE FEW
TECHNIQUES USED IN LEAN PRODUCTION.

PRODUCTION
Production is a process of creating, growing, manufacturing the
goods and services
• Productivity measures how efficiently production inputs, such as land, labour and
capital, are being used in an economy to produce a given level of output.
• Productivity is measured by comparing the amount of goods and services
produced with the inputs which were used in production.
• Labour productivity is the ratio of the output of goods and services to the labour
hours devoted to the production of that output.
PRODUCTIVITY
• Productivity is the output measured against the inputs used to create it.
• Productivity= Qty of Output
Qty of Input
• Labour Productivity = Output (over a given period of time)
Qty of Input(Number of Employees)

BETTER BAKERS PRODUCE CAKES FOR LOCAL SUPERMARKETS. THE
OWNER, BENSON , THINKS THIS HAS BEEN GOOD FOR THE BUSINESS AS
OUTPUT HAS INCREASED.
A. DO YOU AGREE WITH THE OWNER?
B. SUGGEST, HOW THE OWNER COULD INCREASE THE PRODUCTIVITY OF
BETTER BAKERS?

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT THROUGH THE ELIMINATION OF WASTE
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STOCK AND INVENTORY
STOCK: GOODS YOU SELL TO THE CUSTOMER
INVENTORY: INCLUDES PRODUCTS YOU SELL, PLUS MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENTS
NEEDED TO MAKE THEM
JIT
• PRODUCTION METHOD FOCUSING ON REDUCING OR PRACTICALLY
ELIMINATING THE NEED TO HOLD INVENTORIES OF RAW MATERIAL OR
UNSOLD INVENTORIES OF FINISHED PRODUCT.
• SUPPLIES ARRIVE JUST AT THE TIME THEY ARE IN NEED
