Why this is the case ? Who are more affected : parents or children ? Answer With the development of our society, parents tend to invest their time in working and curb the amount of time looking after their children. This trend stems from various potential contributors and it will impose dire repercussions on both physical and mental aspects of children. There are various reasons why parents are not able to allocate a plenty of quality time to their children. In terms of the principal reason behind this, the pressure from work is the main culprit. These days, modern parents are so occupied with a variety of tasks at the workplace that they are likely to be exhausted when they reach home. Thus, they would prefer to take a rest rather than hear and share their children’s everyday issues. In addition, the dominance of electronic devices is also responsible for this trend. In fact, a growing number of parents are engaging in social networking sites and seem to be even addicted to the Internet. Therefore, they have no time left to take good care of their offsprings. The lack of parental attention would certainly have numerous profound effects on children rather than parents. First, this growing trend will lead to potential barrier in the parent-child relationship. To illustrate, with insufficient time distributed by their parents, youngsters would experience the feeling of solitude and isolation. As a result, they could encounter the lack of confidence in making their social relationships. Furthermore, it weakens family bond and facilitates serious arguments between parents and their children. Consequently, children might be driven to rebellious actions and criminal behaviors when they receive inadequate parental supervision. In conclusion, the trend of parents spending less time with their kids can be attributable to the heavy workload and social media overuse, which foster damaging influences on children’s development. Some people say that this is a positive trend, while other people argue that it is leading to negative consequences. Discuss both sides of this argument and then give your own opinion. Answer: Technological application in education has been a major topic of concern in today’s society. While some people assert that learning on computers brings about negative impacts, I am convinced that students can benefit greatly from this trend. There are two primary explanations which can clarify the objection to the use of technology in schooling. Firstly, the fact that students spend lots of time on computers can do great harm to their health. Sitting hours in front of the computer screen can result in serious diseases including visual problems, backaches and obesity. Secondly, studying on computers has an impact on the academic process by discouraging communication and reducing real interactions among members of the class. For example, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students have to take part in online courses instead of attending face-to-face classrooms, which has considerably hindered their opportunity to discuss or exchange ideas with teachers and other peers in the class. Despite some negative consequences, I believe that the beneficial effects of technological application should not be overlooked. Intially, it is more convenient for learners to study on computers. They are allowed to learn at their own pace wherever and whenever they want without the need to travel to school. More importantly, studying on computers enables students to gain access to an endless source of valuable knowledge and information. To illustrate, Google is a common and useful learning tool, where all the information is available at the press of a button. Therefore, students can significantly improve their academic performance with the aid of computerbased materials instead of relying solely on their teachers. In conclusion, I would restate that both arguments have their own validity. While the adoption of computers in education can cause health-related problems and curb face-to-face interactions, it cannot be denied that computer-based learning method has simplified and improved children’s learning process. (308 words, Written by Quỳnh Tâm ) 6 LALA THE LITTLE TEACHER IELTS Course ESSAY 03 : Many people think hosting an international sporting event is beneficial to a country, while others disagree. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Answer People have different views about how many achievable revenues organizing an international sports event could bring to a country. While there is a wide range of perks to host a global athletic event, I strongly believe that its favourable impacts on the growth of a nation are truly minor compared to the inevitable long-standing consequences that we have to endure. There are several reasons why people might argue that holding an international sports competition will boost the economy of the host country. Firstly, a huge influx of tourists to sports venues will phenomenally increase the demands for accommodation and tourism services. This phenomenon will not just stimulate the consumption level of domestic products, create more job opportunities for the local senior citizens but further make a substantial contribution to the all-round growth of the host nation. Secondly, it is a fantastic way to enhance the host country’s image and the world ranking. The government by means of optimizing the quality of their tourism industry along with preserving cultural identities, could leave international tourists with lasting impressions of their own civilized country and attract even more foreign visitors in the coming years. On the other hand, I support the view that holding multinational sports tournaments is the primary contributing factor to the host nation’s environmental degradation and infrastructure overload. Due to the density of tourists and means of transportation exponentially increase in a brief time, the infrastructure is thus insufficient to meet the demand to cater to all tourists. As consequences, in places that are thronged with international visitors, the poor sanitation, for example, in turn, lead to numerous public health problems or even disease outbreaks which can be contributed to the unregulated intrusion of infected travelers who carry the virus from their motherland to the host country. Also, organizing a global sports event has triggered a mixed variety of pollutions, namely air pollution, water pollution accompanied by noise pollution. For instance, exhaust emission from tourist vehicles, which contains a relatively high proportion of air pollutants such as CO2 or SO2, is supposed to be the main culprit for the recent air quality deterioration in many developed countries. In conclusion, holding a multinational sports tournament has its own advantages, but I strongly believe that the drawbacks outweigh them in the long term. While some people say that this is a positive development, others argue that this trend leads to negative consequences. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Answer People hold different views about whether joining online courses is good for students or not. While there are clear benefits of this trend, I am convinced that it produces several setbacks to the study process of learners. On the one hand, it is obvious that learning by technological devices brings a range of advantages. First, it is believed that online classrooms enable learners to follow a flexible schedule. To illustrate, students can log in to their accounts, access the courses and learn at any time or from anywhere they want. By this way, it will stimulate a convenient and innovative learning environment. Secondly, Internet-based classes help every individual from any part of the world to have easy access to education. In fact, learners can successfully register for online courses regardless of their age, gender and geographical location. For example, Vietnamese students can now effortlessly enrol in an undergraduate program offered by a US University from the other half of the world. On the other hand, I agree with those who claim that university’s online courses exert negative impacts on learners and educational outcomes as a whole . From an educational perspective , learning through the computer screen reduces the physical interactions between teachers and students. At the same time, it deprives learners of their opportunity to make discussions, exchange ideas and do pairworks or group works with their classmates. Moreover, from a health perspective, e-learning has detrimental effects on the health of learners. In other words, sitting long hours in front of the computer screen can cause health-related problems including poor eyesight, backache and even obesity. In conclusion, virtual classes offered by universities are a brilliant development that benefits students all over the world. However, I believe the disadvantages related to the lack of interactions and health problems should be taken into serious consideration. Discuss both of these views and give your own opinion. Answer People have different views about whether students should be assigned further practices after classes at school. While some people claim that homework should be banned from schools and educational settings, I believe that homework is an important part of education. On the one hand, there are several reasons why people might argue that homework place an unnecessary burden on children. Firstly, many parents would agree that studying too much can affect students’ health and increases their level of stress. An 8 hour school day is already exhausting, and with the added responsibility of doing homework might lead to tiredness and negative feelings towards education. Secondly, some individuals believe time off school should be spent on other activities such as playing outdoor sports or taking part in voluntary work to help students develop their soft skills. Play time is just as beneficial as study time. In spite of the above arguments, I support the view that homework has an important role to play in the schooling of children. The first benefit of homework is that it enables children to recall the knowledge which they have learnt during classes. In fact, completing extra practices at home gives children an opportunity to revise and understand the lessons deeper thus memorize them for a longer time. In addition, homework helps to form students’ independent learning habits. Through the process of accomplishing given tasks on their own will cultivate students’ self-discipline, problem-solving and time management skills, all of which will significantly contribute to their future career success. In conclusion, despite its drawbacks, I am convinced that homework holds the key to students’ academic success and therefore it should not be eliminated. Explain the main causes of this problem, and suggest some possible solutions. Answer An increasing number of children are suffering from obesity in many parts of the world. This essay will highlight some principal reasons for this and suggest possible actions that could be taken to tackle this problem. One of the main contributing factors to this trend includes children’s unhealthy diet. In fact, children are consuming greater ever quantities of sugary beverages which can be easily bought from vending machines located in public areas. Also, due to their stressful schoolwork and busy schedule, children tend to enjoy fast food meals from KFC, Mc Donalds instead of well-prepared ones. Besides, this trend also has its root cause in children’s lifestyle. With the vast expansion of technology, children tend to enjoy being at home playing games rather than taking part in outdoor activities. The absence of nutritious meals and lack of physical activities have obviously caused to develop body fat percentage among young children. People could implement a range of measures to deal with the problems of increasing childhood obesity. The first solution would be to encourage parents to spend time preparing delicious meals for their kids. Schools should also play their part by providing healthy school lunches for students. This could significantly reduce the consumption of fast food and help to form healthier eating habits. In addition, it is important to educate youngsters on the the health-related risks associated with being overweight and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In conclusion, various steps could be taken to discourage children from consuming fast food as well as to reduce the phenomenon of obesity in this particular age group. What are the reasons for this ? What can be done to solve this problem ? Answer It is true that numerous animal species are facing the threat of going extinct and others are on the red list. This essay will highlight the key contributing factors to this trend and suggest some viable solutions that could be implemented to tackle this problem. There are various reasons why animals are at risk of extinction in recent years. Firstly, excessive hunting for commercial values is endangering many wild animals. The increase in the consumption of luxurious products have lead to the over-exploitation of the worlds’ wild animal species. For instance, a large number of tiger and typhon have been killed for their skin to make clothes and bags. Secondly, climate change and global warming are other drivers that threaten to wipe out a range of species all over the world. The atmospheric temperature is significantly increasing, triggered by rising greenhouse gas emissions from factories and exhaust fumes from vehicles. Therefore, many species have to evolve to cope with warmer temperatures and many species may not be able to adapt fast enough to survive. There are several actions that governments could take to solve the problems described above. Authorities should establish and enhance law enforcement on conserving wild life by banning hunting and trading wild animals. Any offences must be seriously punished to educate citizens and deter potential criminals. At the same time, individuals should also play their part by avoid traveling by private vehicles to reduce their carbon footprints. Also, people can use environmentally-friendly sources of energy instead of depending on traditional fossil fuels to lower greenhouse emissions that are threatening thousands of animals on the globe every year. In conclusion, the factors which cause the extinction of animals are excessive illegal poaching and climate change, so it is important to take actions as a way to stop endangered species from being needlessly killed. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages ? Answer In many parts of the world, there are more university graduates and grown-ups who remain to live with their first family. This trend would introduce both pros and cons, but I believe that the drawbacks do outweigh the benefits. On the one hand, living with parents would benefit adults greatly in many ways. Firstly, the individuals would receive significant support from their family, not only financial but also mental encouragement. In fact, living together could considerably cut living cost for people and thus, increase their living standard. It is true that in this competitive world, the labour market is extremely difficult especially for the novices. Thus, expidentures on housing and living cost could be greatly saved when people live together under the same roof. In addition, after long-hour shifts, youngsters like to find a place to unwind their mind. For those who are living with their parents, their family may be the source of happiness and motivation. On the other hand, there are many drawbacks that I believe would outweigh the above benefits when adults keep living with their parents. The “boomerang kids” tend to excessively rely on their origins instead of standing on their own feet. This causes them to lose individual freedom and selfreliance values. At the same time, living in their comfort zone deprives children of their opportunity to practice soft skills such as decision-making, communication skills and money management techniques. In the long term, being a dependent and irresponsible young citizen would considerably hinder their future career and life prospects. In conclusion, there are still some advantages of living with parents after tertiary education or getting jobs. However, it seems to me that its disadvantages are far more significant. What is your opinion ? Answer With the current pace of technological process, more and more countries have been pouring their state budget into space research. However, some people view this growing trend only as money squandering. From my standpoint, I believe that both space exploration and other domains that are integral to our life should be given equal consideration. On the one hand, investments in space exploration can be justified because it holds the ultimate key to the human race’s long-term existence. This problem arises from the fact that the Earth’s living conditions have constantly been under acute threats from the ever-increasing population and the non-stop imbalance of socio-economic growth. Consequently, the quest for a new home in other planets in the universe is essential. Also, the cutting edge technologies that have been developed and utilised in space travel not just do have practical applications in our daily life but also shape the world as we know it today. For example, it is undeniable that satellites technologies applied in telecommunication, global navigation and weather forecast have made a radical change in the way people acquire information and respond to disasters. On the other hand, I strongly believe that there are more urgent fields that require huge financial support. While space exploration is more about long-term values, current alarming issues right now including climate change, epidemics or education should also receive meticulous attention so that humanlife can sustain long enough until a new homeland is successfully detected. Take Africa, for example, is currently plagued with both severe poverty and the Covid-19 waves, which remains beyond the control of local authorities ; now that without receiving sufficient fundings from the governments and international aids for the pressing issues, it would probably be a huge tragedy for these nations’ citizens. In conclusion, although expenditures on space exploration are still for a good cause, we are also supposed to take undying human-related matters into account so as to achieve the optimal money distribution between space probe and other urgent sectors. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view? Answer There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the pursuit of dangerous sports. Admittedly, people should have complete freedom on their recreational preferences. However, I am personally convinced by the idea that extreme sports should be legally restricted and presented below are several reasons accounting for my perception. First and foremost, dangerous sports should be prohibited for the safety of participants. As there is no absolute guarantee, players’ lives are likely to be put at risk of injuries or fatal accidents. For instance, in F1 car races, riders stand a high chance of getting into severe injuries such as bone fracture, head trauma or even death when doing high speed drills. Therefore, a whole host of physical damages can be avoided by forbidding risky sports. Second of all, a huge amount of money will be unnecessarily wasted on these life-threatening activities. In reality, in order to minimize the risks, millions of dollars are spent on paying for insurances, protective equipments and coaching sessions. To illustrate, for bungee jumping, the price per a jump is approximately $500 and costly equipments and insurance can add up the cost to more than $1000. Furthermore, building the infrastructure and facilities as well as creating spaces for such sports require lots of investments, which can be prohibitively expensive. For these reasons, dangerous sports should be stricly banned to save money to solve more urgent problems of the Earth including climate change, health care or education. In conclusion, people should have full control over their sporting activies. However, I am firmly of the opinion that such sports should be banned for a wide range of underlying drawbacks. (272 words, by Thụy Khuê) 14 LALA THE LITTLE TEACHER IELTS Course ESSAY 11 : Some people believe young people should follow the traditions of their society. Others, however, believe that young people should be free to behave as individuals. Discuss both these views and give your own opinions. Answer: People have different opinions about whether following the traditions of their culture is important among youngsters or they should be free to do as they like. From my point of view, althrough obeying traditional rules can create a well-mannered young generation, I am of the opinion that having freestyle of behaviors is the best way to adapt with the modern life of 21st century. On the one hand, some people believe that it is beneficial to follow the traditional rituals and customs. First, these rules have been accumulated and passed down by our ancestors from generations to generations. Thus, by obeying these traditions, youngsters will be aware of their cultural identity and national pride through a set of Vietnamese values including patriotism, bravery as well as the power of hard work and solidarity. To be more specific, they will learn to respect the elderly, treat other people with a kind and loving heart and also learn to be responsible in their work. All of these traits can significantly help to form their personality in their formative years, which will continue to their future career development. On the other hand, I agree with those who argue that young people should have the rights to do what they like. In fact, I am convinced that each person is born with different views, personal beliefs and perceptions thus will lead to distinct lifestyle and ways of behaving. Forcing them to obey a set of rigid rules is against the basic rights of a free and equal society. In addition, old customs do not prove to be applicable all the time. This is mainly because young people are living in an everdeveloping world surrounded by technology and science, which is completely different from the society as it was hundreds of years ago. Sadly, the outdated and old-fashioned beliefs and customs of the old seem to be no longer suitable and useful to the life of young people anymore. In conclusion, while I accept that traditional values represent good moral examples for youngsters to follow, I believe that young generation should have the right to live the life they want as long as they make some contributions to the society. Is this a positive or negative development? Answer: With the vast development of the world market, cross-border trade has expanded at a rampant pace. In the recent years, there has been a growing trend towards importing exotic food in many countries around the world. While food import brings numerous negative consequences, I am convinced that this is a positive trend. On the one hand, buying food from other parts of the world can cause a range of problems. It is argued that the safety of the imported products should be questioned and taken into serious consideration. Due to long delivery, the food items have to be injected with chemicals and preservatives to keep them fresh and tasty, which can damage customers’ digestive system after consumption and cause a variety of health-related problems. In addition, food import can do serious harm to the environment. Delivering goods worldwide requires various freight services including airplanes, ships and trains. All of these means of transportation rely heavily on fossil fuel, which will release a huge amount of Carbon Dioxide into the atmostphere, deteriorating climate change and exacerbate other environmental problems. On the other hand, there are clear benefits of food import that can justify the increasing consumption of such products. First and foremost, the import of non-domestic commodities allow local citizens to get access to a range of foreign products and diversify their daily meal choices. For example, thanks to overseas shipping, Vietnamese people can now enjoy delicious beef, cherries or grapes from America, which is half a world apart. In addition, food trading helps to stimulate foreign trade and boost global economy. In fact, the exported nations and the imported countries can both financially benefit greatly from the revenues and taxes that they earn through selling the food. Besides, food import market can greatly contribute to the GDP by creating employments for millions of workers in the related fields. In conlusion, despite food import’s minor effects, I consider this to be a positive trend overall. (327 words, Written by Lan Anh ) 16 LALA THE LITTLE TEACHER IELTS Course ESSAY 13 : More and more are on the verge of extinction and others are on endangered list. What are the reasons for this ? What can be done to solve this problem ? Answer The number of endangered species has phenomenally increased in recent years. This essay will highlight the key contributing factors to this growing trend and suggest some viable measures that could be imposed to tackle this problem. In terms of principal reasons behind the alarming rise in the extinction of numerous species, human activities, are the main culprit. To illustrate, modern industrial developments accompanied by agricultural activities have had dire repercussions on various aspects of our ecosystem and further resulted in large-scale destruction of the wild animals’ natural habitats worldwide. Losing natural habitats mean that rare animals can not find themselves in a suitable alternative living environment. As consequences of the prolonged lack of sustenance, shelter, and the failure to reproduce, they might be gradually on the brink of extinction. Also, poaching is spreading at a rampant pace. Plenty of rare animals are being poached due to increasing demands for products made from their body parts. In the wild, rhinos, for example, are illegally slaughtered for their horns, which are sold at horrendously high prices. The government could implement firmer policies and regulations to address the problems of wildlife creatures. Severe punishments, such as life imprisonment, can act as a strong deterrent to the illegal hunting of wild animals. Another measure would be to construct more wildlife sanctuaries that will not just prevent wild animals from being hunted uncontrollably but shelter endangered endemic species being on the red list as well. Not just the governments, individuals can make substantial contributions to alleviate the aforementioned problems by their small yet practical actions. In many developed countries, people are encouraged to boycott products that are made from animals’ skin so as to stop the hunting of those animals. In conclusion, some remedial actions could be enacted to eradicate the issues that rare animals are truly in danger. (306 words, Written by Le Hao) 17 LALA THE LITTLE TEACHER IELTS Course ESSAY 14 : Some people think that a huge amount of time and money is spent on the protection of wild animals, and that this money could be better spent on the human population. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? Answer There are some debates over whether money allocated for wildlife protection should be made substantial cutbacks and saved for pressing issues that human beings might encounter in the coming year. Personally, I believe that both expenditure aspects should be given equal consideration. On the one hand, I would agree that governments are not supposed to invest a huge amount of state money in wildlife sanctuaries. Firstly, extinction is a natural process for not just rare animals yet creatures, in general, to become extinct and it’s only a matter of time. In fact, many ancient species of animal including dinosaurs, dodos were wiped out due to a gradual shift in climate and changing sea levels. Also, with the recent proliferation of acute problems that determine the survival of humankind, wise investments in urgent financial priorities such as epidemic outbreaks or climate change are the key point. African countries, for example, are currently plagued with both severe poverty and the Covid-19 pandemic, which remains beyond the control of the local governments; now that without receiving international fundings for the aforementioned issues, it would be a huge tragedy for these countries’ citizens. On the other hand, while many people argue that humans are the superior race on Earth, others, including myself, feel that all living beings, human and animals have an equal right to live in peace. As a matter of fact, human activities are no doubt the main culprit of most problems that wild animals face. Therefore, mankind, of course, has to take the overall responsibility for not just the dire repercussions on various aspects of the environment but large-scale destruction of the wild animal’s natural habitats worldwide. Additionally, poaching is spreading at a rampant pace. Plenty of wild species are being poached due to increasing demands for products made from their body parts. In case governments wouldn’t allocate part of their budget or hesitantly implement firmer policies, the background extinction rate, as a result, might reach its climax in the very near future. In conclusion, while human-related matters should be taken into consideration, I maintain the view that we should also pay equal attention to wildlife conservation. ( 363 words, by Le Hao ) 18 LALA THE LITTLE TEACHER IELTS Course ESSAY 15: Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that, in today’s world, subjects like Science and Technology are more important than History. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Answer Recently the discussion of the most vital subject at schools has gained great public concern. While many people regard History as one of the most crucial subjects, some others deem that those including Science and Technology have a more significant role to play. Personally, I believe it cannot be generalised that a certain one overwhelms another. Firstly, the importance of History is undeniable. It is one of a few subjects that enlighten learners as to knowledges about the past so that they can understand about the present world in a more profound way. Only by learning History that we know, for instance, that Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin which are still commonly used to save millions of lives from lethal bacteria. In addition, History is also a method to preserve traditions and inspire patriotism. Thanks to meticulous notes, precious traditional values could be properly protected and promoted to both present and future generations. On the other side of the argument, natural subjects such as Science and Technology are widely believed to be the key for progression. Primarily, they broaden people’s horizon about the surrounding world and serve as the fundament of evolutions. Taking Artificial Intelligence (AI) for example. Ever since its invention, AI has revolutionized the way tasks are accomplished, ranging from basic like data entry to challenging one such as making decisions in medical treatments. Tasks, which previously required dozens of people, could now be completed by AI at a lower cost and in a shorter span of time. In conclusion, it is evident that each subject possesses its own importance and complements each other. While History brings us the values from the past, Science and Technology orientate us toward the future. Hence, we should not exchange one for another but rather value all of them, so as not only to inherit invaluable knowledges, but also to create advancement for our descendants.
