What is the emerging ethical dilemma all about? ■ Ransomware encrypts a victim’s data until the attacker is paid a predetermined ransom. What factors or events led to this dilemma? ■ The victim of ransomware like people or company are having a hard time in making decisions in this problem because they have a dilemma where they have to pay a lot of money to get the file taken by the attacker like kidnap for ransom, or they will just make a new one to replace what they lose. What are the societal implications of this dilemma? ■ Invasion of privacy ■ Distrust and miscommunication What are the societal implications of this dilemma? ■ For social implications of ransomware, people became victims of scams wherein their data and money are been accessed by hackers and scammers. Because of that, opening sites that requires certain amount of money before you can access it, people will treat it already as a scam for they've been familiar to those happenings. Why is it important to question the moral and ethical issues surrounding innovations in science and technology? ■ We cannot talk of controlling technology and innovation, the better way is to adapt and change. The role of ethics in technology is of managing rather controlling the same. Continuous monitoring is required to keep track of latest innovations and technological changes and for ensuring fair practices. In the face of this dilemma, why is it important to study STS? ■ We shall have a better understanding of the interaction between science and technology in terms of innovation by studying STS. Technology will control humankind in the future, and science will have a significant impact on our future and the next generation.
