Financial difficulties often cause international student’s problems when
they first arrive in Canada. Until students solve these problems, they are not
free to totally work on their schooling.
budgeting -Many international students arrive in Canada without much
knowledge of making or sticking to a budget. Back in their home countries,
these students generally lived at home, and their parents looked after all
matters relating to finances.

Once these students arrive to Canada, they must quickly learn how to managed
their limited finances. Although their schooling is usually paid, there are endless
other expenses that could easily result in students overspending. Some of these
expenses include utilities, including the ever-important cell phone, transportation,
food, books, and more.

One student received spending money once a month from home. When he first
arrived at the University of Manitoba, he had about a week before classes started.
He decided he would take advantage of his free time, and bought a ticket to
Vancouver. He hadn’t planned for the expenses he would encounter there, and by
the time he returned to Winnipeg to begin his schooling he had no money for any
daily needs, let alone for cell phone bills or books.

somewhat unimportant or even frivolous. Yet, many students come to Canada and

money, and when they go to the cash register to pay, the item is suddenly 13%

Although other countries usually have sales tax, the cost of the item includes the

purchases. Students who come to Canada may decide to buy a new winter coat
and discover that instead of paying $80.00, the coat will actually cost them close to

Transportation system work badly, because roads are not friendly to the drivers,
they are covered with ice. Major accidents happened because roads are slippery

snowfall roads are blocked sometimes, what causes the schedules to be changed
for which reason students are late at class.

Because of bad weather and slippery road, student which live off campus may
usually be late, because major roads are blocked, and transportation systems does
not work appropriately.

The conclusion, that in winter, Canadian students should wear appropriately, to
wear warm shoes and jackets. If they don’t want to miss or skip classes, they
should get out on their bus in advance.

the students learning and grades, as well as communication with other

Newly arrived international students have a language problem; it may be
because they did not learn it or taught it badly, or because they chose
Canada as a place of their future education at the last minute. And during
the lessons they may misunderstand the teacher or the material he teaches.
This can lead to their failing exams and with them the course in which they
studied. Failing the course, they will be forced to take it again, which will
cost them a lot of money.

Concrete example
The student took 4 courses per semester, thinking that he was able to close
them, but due to the fact that hid knowledge of English was small, he did
not understand the teachers and what they were saying. When the exams
came, the student practically had no idea what he was studying. He filled up
2 courses and now he will have to take them again.

Not knowing the language can affect communication with other students.

Communication with students at the university is an important part of
student life. Making new acquaintances you can meet with very interesting
people, but due to the fact that newly arrived students are not sure that
they will be able to hold a conversation due to lack of knowledge in English,
they silence and try to not contact with English-speaking students at all. Of
course, they can find those who speak their language, but spending time
with them they will not be able to learn English and expand their social
circle.
Concrete example
Without communication with other students, you will not develop yourself,
because in conversations with other people you can learn a lot of new and
interesting things, and you will not take a part in the social life of the
university and in the future you will not have bright memories of it.
