What Do Managers Do?
1. If you were the manager of a cookie factory with a goal to produce seven million
chocolate chip cookies per month. State 5 ways to improve productivity (effective)
while ensuring no wasted resources (efficient)?
● With your set goal of 7million cookies per month you want to make sure you are
not buying an excessive amount of resources.
○ Why - No wasted resources
● Don't buy resources that are not long lasting
○ In event of excess resources you want to be able to use them with your
following batch for the next month - Max efficiency No resources wasted
● Invest and take time on training employees to establish a good workflow and have
them comfortable with your goals expectations and necessary manner.
● Establish an organized workplace layout with easy accessibility to all departments
to allow for maximum work efficiency.

2. Give some examples of what the VP of Marketing for an international hotel chain
(e.g. Best Western) would be doing in relation to the 4 functions of management.
● Planning
○ For goals they may want to achieve within their marketing or product of
marketing (sales).

3. Why is accountability important to managerial performance?
It is important to set an example for peers and coworkers to follow along their path.
Being in a managerial position, you are in a supervisory role which includes management
alongside watching and critiquing worker efforts. If you are able to take responsibility for
mistakes it teaches your coworkers the same. Rather than putting blame onto irrelevant
factors they are able to see necessary change within themselves and set goal to
eliminate such from happening again.
