Unit 3: Atoms and Elements – Atoms Family List three important facts about atoms on the rectangle that goes behind this door. One fact must be the definition of atom. name:_______________________ period: ______________ Directions: Atoms Cut out the rectangles on this page. Match them up with the rectangles on the previous page and glue to make a “door”. List three basic parts of atoms and their masses, locations and charges on the rectangle that goes behind this door. Label drawing. Atoms are made of three basic particles Answer the questions on the rectangle that goes behind this door. Use your textbook or online resources. Extend Yourself Why are atoms neutral? Where is most of the mass of an atom found, why? 1) Is there anything smaller than a proton or neutron in an atom (other than an electron)? Research sub-atomic particles and create a small poster showing a model of an atom with these particles labeled. 2) Find out the diameter of any atom. Measure at least four distances in centimeters. Calculate how many atoms it would take to span that distance. Create a mini poster showing your results.
