only is it an excellent opportunity to gain
practical Canadian work experience, but it
will also allow you to expand your social
experiences. Part-time work opportunities on
campus (through the Work-Study Program,
for example) are available to international
students at any time during your studies. You
may obtain permission to work part time off
campus following six months of study. You
may also stay in the Greater Toronto Area and
work full-time during holidays and between
academic terms.

U.S. citizens can apply for financial
assistance from the U.S. William D. Ford
Federal Direct Loan Program. The University
of Toronto is a recognized postsecondary
institution for Federal Direct Loans (PLUS/
Subsidized/Unsubsidized). Education Savings
Plans, and U.S. Federal Education Tax credits
are also applicable.
All applicants are considered automatically
for admission scholarships based on their
academic performance. Scholarship offers
are generally sent at the same time as our
offers of admission. Canadian citizens and
permanent residents living outside Canada
are also eligible for the University of Toronto
financial aid guarantee that assures support
for students with financial need.

Student Permit/Visa
If you are not a citizen or permanent
resident of Canada, you should apply for
a study permit and entry visa (depending
on citizenship) as soon as you receive your
letter of admission from the University.
You can obtain applications for these
documents from a Canadian embassy or
consulate before departing.
To obtain a study permit, international
students must demonstrate to Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship Canada that they
have sufficient resources to cover tuition
and expenses for at least one year of
university. Complete details can be found
at www.cic.gc.ca.
Centre for International
Experience
Adapting to a new cultural environment
and a new education system may present
some unexpected challenges. The Centre for
International Experience is ready to help you
with a wide range of services and programs.
Visit cie.utoronto.ca.
Guardianship
If you are an international student under the
age of 18, you may be asked by Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship Canada to find a
Canadian citizen to act as a guardian. Your
family is responsible for satisfying this
requirement.
ADMISSION
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants who have attained a high level of
academic achievement and who completely
satisfy prerequisites will be considered for
admission. The minimum requirements for
admission consideration vary by program. You
must present all the requirements, including
prerequisite courses, to be considered. All
of our programs have limited spaces and the
admission selection process is competitive.
Some programs require a supplementary
application; check faculty and program
admission information for details. See also:
English Language Requirements. For details
regarding the admission requirements for
each program, visit future.utoronto.ca and
refer to the information that matches your
academic background.
Transfer Applicants
Arts, Science, Business
(all campuses)
Applicants must meet the minimum
admission requirements for their program.
Refer to future.utoronto.ca for detailed
information about requirements for your
educational jurisdiction. Applicants who have
completed studies beyond the minimum
requirements at a recognized postsecondary
institution will be considered for a maximum
of two years of transfer credits. Transfer
credits will be assessed after admission,
and once the Transfer Credit Assessment
application has been completed. Details will
be provided after an offer of admission is
made. Interviews may be required.
Applicants who already hold a bachelor’s
degree, or have completed more than two
years of degree studies at another recognized
postsecondary institution can only apply
to a different field of study. For instance
students who have completed a degree in,
or have majored in economics, management,
commerce or business, cannot complete
a Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of
Business Administration degree. If admitted
to a different program, these applicants
will be granted a maximum of one year of
transfer credit (five full credit courses).
Undergraduate degree holders who wish to
take additional undergraduate courses in their
field, perhaps in order to qualify for graduate
level studies, may consider applying for
Non-degree studies. Please note that it may
not be possible to register as a non-degree
student in courses that are in high demand.
All Other Program Areas
Excellent academic achievement is required
for admission consideration. Applicants
admitted to other divisions may receive
a statement regarding transfer credit
assessment procedures at the time of
admission or shortly thereafter or after
registration.
Applicants who hold an undergraduate degree
in Engineering cannot be offered admission
to our undergraduate Engineering faculty.

Toronto is one of the friendliest and safest cities in the world. There
are three locations at which students may study. U of T St. George
is located in the heart of downtown Toronto; U of T Scarborough is 22 km
(14 miles) to the east of U of T St. George; and U of T Mississauga is 27
km (17 miles) to the west of U of T St. George in the city of Mississauga.
All three campuses offer studies in arts, science and business; most of
the professional faculties are located at U of T St. George.

HOW TO APPLY
Applicants wishing to be considered for
admission to several Ontario universities
should apply to the University of Toronto
through the Ontario Universities’ Application
Centre (OUAC) using the “105” application.
Applicants who are interested in applying
ONLY to the University of Toronto, who reside
outside of Canada and are not currently
studying, nor have previously studied, in
Canada may apply using the “University
of Toronto International application”.
The University of Toronto operates on an
academic year rather than on a semester
or quarter system. Students begin their
studies in September and continue until May
of the following year. The University of Toronto
does not deal with agents and it does not
recommend that applicants deal with agents.

Student Permit/Visa
If you are not a citizen or permanent
resident of Canada, you should apply for
a study permit and entry visa (depending
on citizenship) as soon as you receive your
letter of admission from the University.
You can obtain applications for these
documents from a Canadian embassy or
consulate before departing.
To obtain a study permit, international
students must demonstrate to Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship Canada that they
have sufficient resources to cover tuition
and expenses for at least one year of
university. Complete details can be found
at www.cic.gc.ca.
Centre for International
Experience
Adapting to a new cultural environment
and a new education system may present
some unexpected challenges. The Centre for
International Experience is ready to help you
with a wide range of services and programs.
Visit cie.utoronto.ca.
Guardianship
If you are an international student under the
age of 18, you may be asked by Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship Canada to find a
Canadian citizen to act as a guardian. Your
family is responsible for satisfying this
requirement.
ADMISSION
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants who have attained a high level of
academic achievement and who completely
satisfy prerequisites will be considered for
admission. The minimum requirements for
admission consideration vary by program. You
must present all the requirements, including
prerequisite courses, to be considered. All
of our programs have limited spaces and the
admission selection process is competitive.
Some programs require a supplementary
application; check faculty and program
admission information for details. See also:
English Language Requirements. For details
regarding the admission requirements for
each program, visit future.utoronto.ca and
refer to the information that matches your
academic background.
Transfer Applicants
Arts, Science, Business
(all campuses)
Applicants must meet the minimum
admission requirements for their program.
Refer to future.utoronto.ca for detailed
information about requirements for your
educational jurisdiction. Applicants who have
completed studies beyond the minimum
requirements at a recognized postsecondary
institution will be considered for a maximum
of two years of transfer credits. Transfer
credits will be assessed after admission,
and once the Transfer Credit Assessment
application has been completed. Details will
be provided after an offer of admission is
made. Interviews may be required.
Applicants who already hold a bachelor’s
degree, or have completed more than two
years of degree studies at another recognized
postsecondary institution can only apply
to a different field of study. For instance
students who have completed a degree in,
or have majored in economics, management,
commerce or business, cannot complete
a Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of
Business Administration degree. If admitted
to a different program, these applicants
will be granted a maximum of one year of
transfer credit (five full credit courses).
Undergraduate degree holders who wish to
take additional undergraduate courses in their
field, perhaps in order to qualify for graduate
level studies, may consider applying for
Non-degree studies. Please note that it may
not be possible to register as a non-degree
student in courses that are in high demand.
All Other Program Areas
Excellent academic achievement is required
for admission consideration. Applicants
admitted to other divisions may receive
a statement regarding transfer credit
assessment procedures at the time of
admission or shortly thereafter or after
registration.
Applicants who hold an undergraduate degree
in Engineering cannot be offered admission
to our undergraduate Engineering faculty.

WORKING IN
CANADA
If you’re an international student, you are
allowed to work part time while you study
and may be able to incorporate paid work
terms into your academic program.
Work as Part of Your
Academic Program
Paid work placements are a feature of
Co-op programs at U of T Scarborough and
the Professional Experience Year Co-op
Program at the Faculty of Applied Science
& Engineering, U of T Mississauga and the
Faculty of Arts & Science. Work terms are
accessed after the first year of study.
Full details are available at uoft.me/

Part-Time Work
Part-time work on or off campus allows
you to earn extra spending money. Not
only is it an excellent opportunity to gain
practical Canadian work experience, but it
will also allow you to expand your social
experiences. Part-time work opportunities on
campus (through the Work-Study Program,
for example) are available to international
students at any time during your studies. You
may obtain permission to work part time off
campus following six months of study. You
may also stay in the Greater Toronto Area and
work full-time during holidays and between
academic terms.
Details are available through the Centre for
International Experience at uoft.me/cie.
Working after Graduation
As a graduating international student from
a Canadian university, you may be allowed
to stay and work in Canada, full-time, for
up to three years.
Details are available at uoft.me/cie.
Finding Work
The Career Centres on our three campuses
encourage you to use their extensive
resources at any time during your university
experience. Here, you’ll find support in
preparing for job interviews, researching
career paths, finding part-time jobs or a fulltime career.
SCHOLARSHIPS
& FINANCIAL AID
All applicants are considered automatically
for admission scholarships based on their
academic performance. Scholarship offers
are generally sent at the same time as our
offers of admission. Canadian citizens and
permanent residents living outside Canada
are also eligible for the University of Toronto
financial aid guarantee that assures support
for students with financial need.
U.S. citizens can apply for financial
assistance from the U.S. William D. Ford
