I believe that college is a place where people go to find where they belong in the world. Some people go
into college thinking they want to be something, but throughout their 4 years attending school they find
out that they fit in somewhere else than they originally thought. Some people come to school to watch
football games and party, while others only see college as a time to learn. Going into my freshman year
my goal is to find out a balance between having a fun social life, while also dedicating enough time to
my studies that I will be successful. This might be easier said than done because one will affect the
other. A social life will distract from my studies, while studying might end up meaning missing out on
some social events. I feel that finding a balance will be hard because I took a year off from school and
that put a layer of rust over my skills as a student. However, working a full-time job made me disciplined
in making a schedule and sticking to it. College for me will be finding out where I will fit in for the future.
I know I will never want to work at Staples again and this fuels me to be successful here in school. I want
to leave school knowing where and what I want to be, if that’s in 2 years dropping out or 5 years with a
master’s degree only time will tell. What I know is that it is all in my hands and I will be putting all the
effort I have to decide my future for the better.
