Beautiful Souls Cookout
About The Charity
Beautiful Souls is a community of tiny, portable homes that are used to house the
homeless. Beautiful Souls is not just another homeless shelter as this group
attempts to house people with dignity and as much autonomy as possible.
Through a network of volunteers the group provides two home cooked meals for
the 50 residents every day. The group also offers clothing and leisure activities
such as a pool table and dart board for the residents. Beautiful Souls started last
April when a shop owner in kitchener and a nightclub owner teamed up to use
the nightclub's property as a location for tiny homes for the homeless. Currently
the property has been sold due to the former owner's death and the residents are
now in a temporary location looking for funds to relocate to a new permanent
location.The organization serves primarily the 50 individuals that have been
affected by homelessness by giving them residence, however volunteers also
cook food for the people living on the streets. They also help others find shelters
that can help them. We are interested in this organization because it is a local
organization that has many volunteers and seeks to give homeless people not
only the necessities but also dignity. Some challenges we may face will be
finding a way to run the event if there is rain. We have many volunteers who will
likely be able to bring tents to do the event under. Another challenge would be
the Covid 19 pandemic. To avoid transmission we will enforce masks for all
guests.
The Event
We have decided to run a lunch barbecue for Beautiful Souls. This event will be
held at the temporary location for the tiny home community
The event will be advertised on the Beautiful Souls Social media accounts as
well as marketed at the workplaces of all of the volunteers. There will also be
volunteers coordinating with volunteers at other organizations to get the word out
to anyone that they may know . Our Audience will be the general public. We
encourage anyone to come out for some food and try to understand a little bit
about the charity. We expect mainly people who follow the social media accounts
to attend as they have shown some interest in the cause already. We will have
three grills cooking either sausage burgers or beyond meat burgers. Along with
this we will have soda and ham with scalloped potatoes. This will serve as both
food for guests and one of the meals for the residents. Any guest is welcome
there will be no fee for the event however donations are encouraged. This means
the budget is relatively low. However we have many community donors who are
willing to donate the food and people who will bring the grills and other supplies.
Our budget therefore is $50 for decorations. This can include streamers, balloons
and a pineda for children. This will be a great chance for community members
to come see what beautiful souls are all about.
Tasks
We will be responsible for picking up the food and cooking the potatoes and ham.
There are two families who have offered to bring the grills and the parents do the
cooking. The decorations can be bought by us. Setup will be done by the team of
volunteers that are directors of the organization. Cleanup Will be done by us and
anyone willing to help.
