A. LINGUISTIC APPROACH 1. What identity does the text/talk reflect? Explain your answer by stating the evidence. The identity that the author is trying to mention in the talk is her authenticity as a Latina. She is often described as someone too brown and fat, and poor-looking individual. Her appearance in the industry is stereotyped as someone who will never be able to get good roles. 2. Why America’s first audition became an eye-opener event in her life? How this event changed the mood and tone of the text/talk? This experience taught her how others see and discriminate individuals of other races, and appearances. Her talk suddenly became sad but motivational in the sense that she emphasized how this experience has brought her to a realization that in order to succeed in the industry, one must be proud of his own authenticity. B. BIOGRAPHICAL APPROACH 3. How does conformity (a type of social influence involving a change in belief or behavior in order to fit in with a group) to the moves of society become a struggle for the speaker? How did she overcome this? The speaker narrated several rejections she had received all throughout her journey in the industry. She had developed insecurities about her physical appearance because of this. She has stated in her talk that it took her years to overcome the feeling of being less of a person for being an authentic Latina. Her last rejection for a role has made her realize a lot of things and has finally moved on from all the discrimination she had experienced. 4. What has the speaker revealed in her work/talk about her characteristic (modes of thought, perceptions, or emotions)? C. SOCIOCULTURAL APPROACH 5. How does this text/talk reflect the plight of immigrants and migrants all over the world? Does this text/talk also reflect other issues (stereotype, discrimination, etc.)? Explain your answer. II.
